911 is the backbone of American public safety…but, for too long, the professionals that dedicate their lives to answering our calls have been let down by the technology that serves them. Our mission is to change that.
We aim to ensure that every emergency receives a perfect response; a bold vision requires bold action from our team, working hand-in-hand with the professionals we serve.
Since the public launch of our first public safety product in the fall of 2021, our technology has helped streamline millions of 911 calls in communities around the country. We’ve revolutionized what’s possible in emergency response by applying cutting-edge AI to the most critical challenges facing first responders. Our partners span 49 states and collectively protect more than 90 million people.
Backed by more than $130 million in funding led from investors like General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz, and First Round Capital, we're scaling rapidly to become a core component of emergency calls nationwide, driving the future of emergency response toward a safer, more agile system.
At Prepared, you’re not simply part of a team — you’re a key force in a mission that truly matters. Your contributions here will shape the future of emergency services, playing a vital role in creating a safer, more connected world.
Position OverviewPrepared is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance team. In this role, you’ll take ownership of core accounting functions previously outsourced, playing a critical part in building the financial foundation of a fast-scaling, mission-driven company. Your work will directly impact the accuracy and reliability of Prepared’s financial reporting and collections processes.
What You’ll DoAccounts Receivable (AR): Apply customer payments, track outstanding balances, and assist with collections efforts.
Collections: Manage collection efforts and outreach. Partner with CSMs for customer communications and reduce days sales outstanding (DSO).
Accounts Payable (AP): Enter and code vendor bills in our bill pay system, ensuring accurate general ledger classification.
Credit Card and Expense Management: Code corporate credit card expenses and collect corresponding receipts. Review employee-submitted expense reports for proper coding, documentation, and policy compliance.
Month-End & Year-End Close: Prepare bank and credit card reconciliations. Support journal entry preparation, accruals, and other closing tasks as needed. Assist with audits and tax preparation as needed.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain thorough transaction documentation to support audit readiness and internal controls.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise with employees across departments to ensure accurate reporting and timely submissions.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
2–4 years of experience in GAAP accounting, ideally within a SaaS or high-growth tech environment
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel
Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards
Clear communicator with the professionalism to handle vendor and customer interactions (esp. for collections)
Highly organized and detail-oriented; thrives in fast-paced, remote-first environments
Bonus: Experience with Ramp or similar AP/expense platforms; exposure to annual audits
Note: While this is an accounting role, success also requires initiative, a bias toward action, and the ability to learn quickly in ambiguity. You’ll work closely with senior finance leaders and be expected to grow with the team.
Pay TransparencyThe base compensation for this role is approximately $95,000–105,000 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, company equity grants, participation in Prepared’s unlimited vacation program.
