Job Description
This is the perfect opportunity for the rare Senior Application Developer with strong business sense, an outgoing and approachable personality, and a desire to be a part of a growth minded leadership teaming. BAE Systems is offering an exciting opportunity to support an important and dynamic Department of Justice customer as a Senior Software Engineer supporting a highly capable and diverse team driving technical innovation. The successful candidate must be highly technically competent, meeting the requirements below, and also able to contribute to BAE Systems efforts to grow and transition customer specific business to the Hunstville, AL market.
  1. Support the Government's effort to obtain and maintain an authority-to- operate (ATO) and protect the security posture of the program systems and applications;
  2. Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills;
  3. Instruct and mentor junior development team members;
  4. Provide Government personnel instruction, guidance, and documentation; and
  5. Willingness to learn new technical disciplines and to become a resident expert within a team.
  6. If requested, be able to attend CCB meetings with the Government as a subject matter expert (SME).

Functional Responsibilities: Design, develop, refactor, enhance, test and evaluate, and support software applications currently hosted on-premises to be hosted within the GovCloud instance compliant with customer policy directives (PD) and guides (PG) mandated to ensure legal and information security compliance. This shall include analysis of the existing system in collaboration with other team members and Government PM, and designing an appropriate solution. Candidates shall be skilled in multiple web application languages, reverse engineering, and have a strong background in building scalable, user intuitive, high-quality and high performing web applications ranging from a high mid-level and a senior. The application enhancements or modifications may include business and process changes to customer applications/systems as well as coordination with other integrated and other stakeholder software systems. The contractor shall work alongside infrastructure, development, and managerial team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues. The contractor shall:
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Systems or related field of study, or in lieu of education, six (6) additional years of relevant experience.
Minimum/General Experience:
  1. Five (5) or more years of experience as a software developer in building multi-tier framework software applications using object-oriented programming languages, specifically C#.
  2. One (1) or more years of experience with cloud (Azure preferred) application development and management;
  3. Experience migrating on-premises hosted applications to the cloud (Azure preferred);
  4. Experience developing cloud native applications (Azure preferred);
  5. Experience developing SOAP and REST APIs in a client/server environment (i.e., C#, etc.);
  6. Experience writing and evaluating regular expressions;
  7. Experience developing, debugging and/or refactoring code for popular programming languages (i.e. C#, etc.);
  8. Experience with scripting command line tools (e.g., Vim, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) to automate command tasks;
  9. Knowledge of object-relational mapping (ORM);
  10. Knowledge of web-related technologies HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS;
  11. Experience with any major database (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server);

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Preferred Skills are listed below:
  1. One (1) or more years of experience with application development leveraging a SQL and/or PostgreSQL database as data storage;
  2. Two (2) or more years of experience with cloud (Azure preferred) application development and management;
  3. Experience in gathering and analyzing requirements and direct interaction with a Government customer (e.g., gathering metrics for reporting);
  4. Experience developing Section 508 compliant applications;
  5. Experience in a Government client environment and working alongside a Government PM in assisting with project goals and direction of development team;
  6. Ability to design, develop, troubleshoot, and test software to satisfy requirements;
  7. Ability to oversee and guide junior and mid-level team members with project work, including defining upcoming goals, in-depth requirements evaluation and planning, detailed task write-ups, and code reviews.
  8. Experience with integrating and troubleshooting complex software interactions/interconnections between infrastructures that traverse between firewalls and cross-domain systems to other enterprise systems or services
  9. Experience leading an Agile development environment with short duration tasking
  10. Experience writing optimized database queries and stored procedures
  11. Experience presenting change requests to the Configuration Control Board (CCB) for approval prior to making changes to application configurations once deployed to production.

Multiple programming languages necessary to meet a diverse set of requirements. The Contractor must be familiar with a variety of scripts, programming languages, and operating systems. Examples of relevant computer programming languages currently used to design and deploy components that include, but are not limited to:
  • React - Typescript
  • C# - ASP.NET and .NET Core
  • PostgreSQL
  • Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • GitLab - CI/CD and Issue Tracking

  • JavaScript

  • Microservices Architecture
  • Some Systems Engineering experience desired, not required

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $133333 - $226667
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
