Escape Velocity Entertainment
Principal Combat Designer | North America | Canada | Europe | Fully Remote
What we are looking for:
As a Principal Combat Designer you will be responsible for creating and improving the combat mechanics for our diverse characters to make our game more fun, challenging and engaging.
Requirements
What we will do together:
- Collaborate closely with Design Director, and other Design Leads to drive and execute the vision for combat design for a robust online multiplayer experience.
- Design and craft expert-level player combat mechanics, weapons and abilities.
- Communicate with Leads and Directors of other disciplines, particularly art and engineering, and ensure that everyone is on the same page before beginning mechanics/feature development.
- Advocate for the player, always putting the player experience first when considering and making all design decisions.
What you will bring:
- A can-do attitude that is player oriented…mechanics design is one of the most hotly debated areas of design, but you remember that simplicity is often a player’s best friend.
- At least two shipped AAA titles where you worked in mechanics design capacity
- Expert knowledge of off-the-shelf design tools, and expertise with Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred)
- Deep professional understanding of the many major mechanics and gameplay features found in contemporary game titles, and a keen knowledge for how those mechanics and features work.
- Strong creative and technical problem-solving skills
- Exceptional communication skills

Escape Velocity is a team of passionate, talented developers working at a studio that offers excellent benefits, on what we believe is a once-in-a-career project with a committed publisher. We believe in constant improvement across all areas – from the game itself to our production design – and are constantly re-evaluating how we spend our time to ensure that we’re not wasting yours and we’re all always working on the most important things.
