Job Description

We are looking for a Director, Tax Operations to join our growing team! In this role, you will be responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day tax compliance and operational activities. Reporting to the VP, Head of Accounting, this role ensures accurate and timely execution of tax filings, adherence to regulatory requirements, and effective support of business operations. You will oversee a small team of tax professionals, manage external advisors, and collaborate across Finance and Accounting to maintain compliance and operational excellence.

As a Director, Tax Operations, your duties and responsibilities will include:

Tax Compliance and Operations

  • Manage the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns, property taxes, and indirect taxes (sales, VAT, and transactional).
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, SOX, and tax accounting requirements.
  • Support transfer pricing documentation and compliance with intercompany arrangements.
  • Assist in responding to federal, state, and local tax audits, working with external advisors and regulators as needed.

Risk Management and Process Control

  • Identify potential compliance risks and ensure processes are in place to maintain defensible tax positions.
  • Maintain documentation to support tax positions and audit requirements.
  • Support internal controls and ensure tax processes align with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

Process Improvement and Technology

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in tax operations.
  • Leverage tax systems, automation, and reporting tools to streamline compliance activities.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Supervise and coach tax staff, supporting their professional development and performance.
  • Manage work allocation and ensure timely delivery of tax filings and reporting obligations.

Cross-Functional and Vendor Management

  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and Legal to support tax operations and reporting.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and consultants to ensure quality and cost-effective service delivery.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Oversee accurate preparation of tax disclosures for financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Provide analysis to support operational decisions and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA or equivalent preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in tax operations and compliance within a corporate environment (telecommunications experience preferred)
  • Have at least 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in tax
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, and tax accounting principles
  • Possess experience with indirect taxes (sales tax, VAT, transactional) and exposure to transfer pricing
  • Are proficient in tax and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion) and Excel
  • Show strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate across teams to support business objectives
