The role of the Lead Digital User Experience Designer is to manage and support a team of designers in creating the online user experience through concepting user flows, sitemap, wireframes and design assets and through gathering research and conducting usability testing.

This position combines passion for crafting user-centered solutions with expertise in visual design to deliver the best possible user experience for Belk customers. The Lead User Experience Designer will be able to make a deliberate design decisions and translate any given user-experience journey into a smooth and intuitive interaction.
• Lead the UX team on work from initial concepting to user flows, wireframes, and final design specifications
• Manage team of UX/UI Designers
• Expected to clearly articulate vision and design decisions to stakeholders and meet deadlines on multiple projects
• Traffic work requests and manage team workload to deliver quality projects on schedule
• Sign off on project design deliverables and on development work
• Partner closely with development teams to align on best practices for design and build
• Represent team in cross functional and cross level communication
• Establish usability testing principles and conduct usability testing to deliver a refined experience
• Build prototypes
• Articulate strategy behind your solutions to your team, project partners, and stakeholders
• Drive layout and flows of the belk.com and Belk Mobile App experience
• Set and maintain style guide for site icons, fonts, and other specifications
• Own usability and ADA compliance of belk.com and Belk Mobile App
• Responsible for sales via establishing "look and feel", user experience, style guide, design concepts, design quality standard, process management and improvements, and production productivity
• Responsible for researching and incorporating new digital design components as they evolve to meet customer expectations and deliver sales growth
• Effectively leading team in this highly production centric environment, set structure to prioritize and traffic creative requests from all areas, managing delivery according to creative production calendar, embrace constant changes and high-volume workload demands, implement process improvements and system automation opportunities by gaining senior management support and leading team to changes

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • 7-10+ years of experience in the retail eCommerce or interactive space as a User Experience Designer or related role
  • 3-5 years management experience
  • A portfolio that includes visual design samples that demonstrate core skills across a variety of project types
  • Mobile design/usability experience
  • Experience producing documentation including, but not exclusive to concepts, user flows, visual comps, visual specs, and visual standards/guidelines
  • Responsive web design experience
  • Understanding of ADA Compliance



Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of Sketch, Photoshop and/or Illustrator
  • Agile Project Management and Framework Experience
  • Experience using Jira and knowledge of scrum framework
  • Strong conceptual ability and understanding of marketing and branding principles
  • Support and understanding of Quality Assurance (QA), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent people, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proven creative and design skills
  • Track record in gaining collaboration and alignment from diverse teams with strong view points
  • Web development experience (HTML, CSS) a strong desire
  • Invision or other prototyping tool experience
  • Curious, detail oriented thinker with an ability to see the whole picture while leading a team
