Inside the Role

Daimler Truck Financial Services (DTFS) is hiring three Corporate Counsel attorneys to join its Legal team that is relocating to Charlotte, NC. These roles support a sophisticated, highly regulated business operating in Canada and the U.S., and offer the opportunity to work on high-impact matters across financial services, commercial transactions, treasury and capital markets support, and strategic growth initiatives.

We are seeking candidates with a strong foundation in two or more of the following areas: commercial finance, secured lending, financial services, corporate and securities, commercial transactions, procurement, privacy, regulatory compliance, or in-house business counseling. Two roles will be more heavily focused on captive finance, secured lending, workouts, treasury support, and new business models, including joint ventures and strategic partnerships. One role will be more heavily focused on commercial transactions, privacy, procurement, and broader operational legal support. These roles report directly to the DTFS Head of Legal.

Inside the Role 

In this role, you will partner closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver practical, business-oriented legal advice that supports innovation while managing legal, regulatory, and operational risk. 

Key Areas of Responsibility 

  • Finance, Lending, and Strategic Transactions: Support commercial finance, secured lending, dealer and fleet documentation, workouts, restructurings, customer-facing financial products, and strategic transactions, including new business models, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. 
  • Commercial Contracting and Operational Support: Advise on a broad range of commercial matters, including vendor agreements, procurement support, operational processes, customer issues, and internal business initiatives. 
  • Privacy, Data Protection, and Compliance: Provide legal support on privacy, information security, licensing, credit-related regulation, and other compliance matters relevant to the business. 
  • Treasury and Capital Markets Support: Support the treasury organization on banking transactions and related treasury matters, including asset backed securitization and syndication. Provide legal support for bond offerings and other debt and equity transactions led by our parent company legal team. 
  • Risk Management and Dispute Support: Help assess and mitigate legal and business risk, support responses to complaints and disputes, and partner with outside counsel on litigation or regulatory matters when needed. 
  • Cross-Border and Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across teams and jurisdictions, including support for Canadian and other cross-border matters, as applicable, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver consistent, practical legal advice. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead or support complex transactions from structuring through execution, coordinating with internal stakeholders and outside counsel as needed. 
  • Develop practical guidance, playbooks, templates, and training that help business teams make informed decisions efficiently and consistently. 
  • Identify recurring legal and operational issues and help design scalable, business-friendly solutions. 
  • Support escalated matters with clear judgment, thoughtful risk assessment, and a solutions-oriented approach. 
  • Build trusted relationships across functions and serve as a collaborative advisor in a fast-paced, evolving business environment. 
  • Manage outside counsel relationships with an emphasis on Canadian matters. 

Minimum Qualifications (apply if this is you) 

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. 
  • Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 
  • 8 years of general experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience working at a law firm , in-house, or combination of the two. 
  • Meaningful experience in two or more of the following areas: commercial finance, secured lending, financial services, corporate and securities, commercial transactions, procurement, privacy, regulatory compliance, or in-house business counseling. 
  • Sound judgment, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to prioritize work effectively based on materiality to overall business objectives and risk. 
  • Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical guidance. 
  • Be self-motivated and intellectually curious. 

Preferred Experience and Capabilities (any combination of the following) 

  • Experience working across jurisdictions or supporting Canadian legal matters. 
  • Familiarity with UCC Article 9; experience with workouts, restructurings, or related credit matters. 
  • Experience advising on financial services products, captive finance operations, or regulated commercial finance activities. 
  • Experience supporting privacy, data protection, information security, or related regulatory compliance matters. 
  • Experience with new business models, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or other complex cross-functional initiatives.
