Job Description

Join Allstate’s in-house legal team, Claim Litigation, a division of Global Litigation. Claim Litigation primarily manages matters involving allegations of bad faith and extra-contractual exposure against the Company.
Claim Litigation Counsel will be expected to provide guidance to the Claims Organization regarding insurance claims of heightened exposure, complex extra-contractual matters, bad faith, and other major claim-related litigation.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant and substantive experience in a law firm or in-house legal department related to insurance defense work, and some experience managing or litigating bad faith or extra-contractual allegations. In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong judgment, strong research and writing skills, and an eagerness to be involved in a dynamic company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee first and third-party claims of heightened exposure, complex extra-contractual matters, bad faith, and other major litigation related to insurance claims.
  • Perform extra-contractual analysis based on factual and legal issues.
  • Provide advice to the Claims Organization on extra-contractual and bad faith issues, recommendations for resolution, and strategies to mitigate risk related to insurance claims.  
  • Prepare and present recommendations for settlement of claims where there is extra-contractual risk. 
  • Work closely with outside counsel and the Claims Organization in the oversight of high exposure and complex claims in litigation.  
  • Work with business colleagues and other in-house legal teams to develop and implement recommendations related to the handling of claims. 
  • Provide advice and counsel to the business with respect to litigation strategies and on emerging legal issues and risks.
Education & Experience
  • ​Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law, and in good standing, within State of Practice.
  • 3+ years of substantive legal experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
  • Insurance defense experience (required)

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 90,700.00 - 153,925.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
