About The Role
The IT Development Program (ITDP) provides program participants with the opportunity to advance their technical and leadership skills through challenging assignments across multiple areas of business. Each ITDP participant has unique program experiences with the possibility of working on different teams in varied worksites over a three-year period. This allows program participants to diversify their technical skills and build their professional network.
In addition, the ITDP allows participants to learn from Caterpillar technical leaders and experts in a variety of team dynamics. ITDP participants absorb, in just a few years, what often takes a decade for young professionals to experience. At the completion of the three rotations, ITDP participants will be placed into a permanent position that aligns with Caterpillar IT's strategic workforce goals.
What You Will Do:
Professionals within the program will complete three 12-month rotations, which are defined based on business needs. You must be willing to travel and relocate to any of the three Caterpillar IT placement locations in North America upon hire and throughout each rotation while in the program. Those areas include, but are not limited to Peoria, IL, Irving, TX, Nashville, TN, Corinth, MS, and Mossville, IL.

What You Will Have
Core Application Systems: Knowledge of major production application systems used for delivery of services to internal and external clients; ability to leverage major production application systems in diverse situations.
Level Basic Understanding:• Describes basic elements and benefits of core applications supported by own area.• Names the organization's core application systems.• Names major business functions and services supported by core applications.• Locates and uses relevant documentation for core applications.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Level Basic Understanding:• Explains the value of a disciplined approach to problem solving.• Describes problem reporting and escalation practices.• Utilizes accepted procedures for problem analysis and resolution.• Identifies key aspects of problem-solving techniques used in own area.
Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of basic activities and deliverables of application design; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
Level Basic Understanding:• Describes basic activities and deliverables associated with application design.• Discusses technical architecture relevant to own environment.• Identifies technical application architecture standards and considerations.• Names the specific tasks, activities and deliverables of technical application design.
Implementation: Knowledge of how to run applications for organizations; ability to implement application software within an organization and help end-users perform specific tasks (ex: accounting or graphic design).
Level Basic Understanding:• Cites specific types of application software and their usage within an organization.• Identifies problems commonly associated with application implementation.• Lists main application software and vendors in the market place.• Describes the general processes and policies of application implementation.
Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

System and Technology Integration: Knowledge of the features and facilities of systems; ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms.

Program Qualifications
- Must be enrolled full-time at a 4-year University/College pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a technical-related degree at the time of application.
- Selected candidates must obtain their degree before the start of the program
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0 on 4.0 scale (without rounding)
- Previous technical internship or work experience outside of classroom setting
