The Opportunity

AssetMark is seeking a VP, Head of Platform Product to lead the product strategy and vision for our foundational technology platform. This senior leadership role will collaborate closely with the VP, Head of Platform Engineering to conceptualize, design, and deliver a robust, scalable platform of services and APIs that will underpin our entire product estate and enable our next phase of growth.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader with deep experience in platform strategy, API product management, and data-driven decision making. This role requires a strategic thinker who can identify and unlock commercial opportunities through platform capabilities while evangelizing platform-first thinking across the organization. You will partner with key stakeholders to develop a unified vision for AssetMark's platform architecture and create a roadmap that maximizes business value and competitive advantage.

As the Head of Platform Product, you will establish and lead a product management function focused on platform components, developer experience, and enterprise-wide data governance. Your work will create the foundation that accelerates product development across the organization while ensuring consistency, reliability, and scalability.

We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Opportunity Identification: Identify and prioritize platform capabilities that unlock new revenue streams, enhance existing offerings, and create sustainable competitive advantages
  • Platform Product Strategy: Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AssetMark's platform products that directly support business growth objectives
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner closely with the Head of Platform Engineering to align product strategy with technical architecture and implementation
  • Data Modeling Excellence: Lead the definition of canonical data models that enable seamless data flow throughout the enterprise while maintaining integrity and security
  • API Design Leadership: Establish API design standards that balance usability, performance, and flexibility while supporting diverse commercial use cases
  • Platform Evangelism: Coach product teams across the organization on platform-first approaches to product design and development
  • Enablement & Education: Develop comprehensive training programs and resources to elevate platform thinking and capabilities across the entire product organization
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage with leadership across product, engineering, and business units to align platform capabilities with organizational needs
  • Platform Adoption: Develop strategies to drive platform adoption across product teams, including creating compelling documentation, developer portals, and enablement programs
  • Requirements Definition: Create clear product requirements for platform components that balance technical feasibility, business needs, and user experience
  • Metrics & Analytics: Establish key metrics for platform success and implement systems to track adoption, performance, and business impact
  • Team Development: Build and lead a team of platform product managers focused on different aspects of the platform ecosystem

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven track record identifying and realizing commercial opportunities through platform capabilities
  • Deep expertise in data modeling, ontology development, and enterprise information architecture
  • Expert knowledge of API design principles, patterns, and best practices for enterprise platforms
  • Demonstrated success coaching and evangelizing platform approaches across product organizations
  • Strong background in wealth management, asset management, or financial services technology
  • Experience leading organizational transformation to platform-centric models
  • Expertise in building and mentoring high-performing product teams

Education & Experience

  • 12+ years of product management experience with at least 6+ years leading platform product initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience

  • Strategic vision with ability to connect platform capabilities to commercial opportunities
  • Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to evangelize technical concepts across diverse audiences
  • Strong executive presence with demonstrated success influencing senior leadership and driving organizational change

  • Collaborative approach with emphasis on partnership across product, engineering, and business functions

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $210,000-$240,000.

 

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
