We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead our talented engineering teams. Reporting directly to the CTO, the Vice President, Engineering will oversee multiple engineering teams and play a key role in shaping the technical direction of the company. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in building and scaling engineering teams in startup environments.

Establish best practices for software development, including coding standards, testing methodologies, and deployment processes.
Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, high-performance micro-services and APIs.
Collaborate closely with product management, design, and other cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that delight our customers.

Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
A Bit About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams in startup environments.
Strong technical background with expertise in micro-services architecture and modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Ruby, Go, Python, React, React Native).
Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.
Results-driven mindset with a track record of delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.
Passion for technology and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Scaling Startups: Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated track record of successfully scaling engineering teams and infrastructure in fast-paced startup environments. Experience navigating the challenges and opportunities inherent in rapid growth will be highly valued.
Hands-On Technical Expertise: Candidates with hands-on technical expertise in building and deploying micro-services architectures, particularly using modern programming languages and frameworks such as Ruby, Go, Python, React, and React Native, will be preferred. The ability to dive deep into technical challenges and provide strategic guidance will set candidates apart.
Proven Leadership in Agile Environments: We are looking for candidates with a strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience leading engineering teams in Agile environments. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within their teams.
Track Record of People Development: Candidates with a proven track record of developing and mentoring engineering talent will be preferred. Experience in coaching team members to reach their full potential, fostering a culture of learning and development, and promoting diversity and inclusion within engineering teams will be highly valued.

Additional Physical Job Requirements
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to work at a computer terminal with monitor, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, and reach for equipment and supplies, make frequent repetitive motions required to operate a computer that include the wrists, hands and fingers, and lift, carry, push, pull, and move light objects up to 20 pounds. The role also requires the ability to effectively communicate through verbal interactions, discern auditory information, and visually perceive details to perform essential job functions.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $228,000 - $285,000
Commission Eligible: No
Travel: Yes - Required up to 15% of the time
Location Requirement:
Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (WA), and Wisconsin.
