Job Title: US Consultant Relations, Senior Director or Managing Director

Business Title: Senior Director or Managing Director

Business Unit: Global Business Development

Locations: Boston, New York City, Charlotte, or Chicago

The Opportunity

Barings is seeking an experienced Consultant Relations professional to strengthen and expand the firm’s relationships with leading investment consultants across the U.S. This individual will serve as a senior relationship owner for a portfolio of strategically important consulting firms, with a particular focus on deepening Barings’ engagement with key decision-makers, research teams, and field consultants.

The role will have national coverage responsibility and will be accountable for developing and executing relationship strategies that increase awareness and conviction in Barings’ investment capabilities, generate favorable consultant ratings, identify new commercial opportunities, and ultimately contribute to asset growth. This individual will work closely with Institutional Sales, Investment, Product, and broader Global Business Development teams to ensure a coordinated approach to consultant engagement and business development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Own senior-level relationships with key investment consulting firms, developing deep connectivity across research teams, field consultants, investment committees, and other key decision-makers and influencers.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for assigned consulting firms, identifying the relationships, investment capabilities, ratings, and commercial opportunities most important to Barings.
  • Strengthen Barings’ positioning across the consultant community, particularly within alternatives and private markets, by clearly articulating the firm’s investment capabilities, competitive differentiation, and value proposition.
  • Drive positive consultant ratings and recommendations by proactively managing the full relationship lifecycle, including research engagement, due diligence, education, portfolio updates, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Identify commercial opportunities within consultant client rosters and partner closely with Institutional Sales to pursue opportunities, coordinate coverage, and convert consultant advocacy into new business.
  • Build relationships beyond centralized research teams by developing strong connectivity with field consultants and other influential stakeholders who shape manager selection and client recommendations.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of assigned consulting firms, including organizational structure, key decision-makers and influencers, research priorities, client base, manager selection processes, investment preferences, and competitive dynamics.
  • Serve as an internal source of consultant and market intelligence, providing actionable insight to Investment, Product, Sales, and senior leadership on evolving consultant priorities, competitor positioning, and market trends.
  • Create differentiated engagement opportunities by connecting consultants with Barings investment professionals, senior leadership, research insights, and relevant thought leadership.
  • Partner collaboratively across the broader Consultant Relations and Institutional Sales organization, sharing relationships, intelligence, and opportunities rather than operating in silos.
  • Maintain disciplined documentation of consultant activity, relationship development, ratings, opportunities, and next steps within the firm’s CRM.

Qualifications

Required

  • 15+ years of related experience in consultant relations, institutional business development, or a closely related institutional distribution role within asset management.
  • Established relationships and demonstrated credibility with major U.S. investment consulting firms.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing senior relationships and translating consultant engagement into ratings, recommendations, and/or commercial opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of the institutional investment landscape and the role consultants play in manager research, selection, and client portfolio decisions.
  • Experience representing sophisticated investment strategies to institutional investment professionals.
  • Exceptional relationship management, communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Commercially minded and able to connect long-term relationship development with tangible business opportunities.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented, low-ego approach, with the ability to work effectively across Investment, Product, Sales, and broader distribution teams.
  • Ability to operate independently, prioritize strategically important relationships, and represent Barings credibly with senior external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively in support of consultant relationships and business priorities.

Preferred

  • Meaningful alternatives and/or private-markets experience.
  • Direct experience owning national relationships with major consulting organizations.
  • CFA and/or MBA.
  • Relevant FINRA registrations, as required for the position.
