Position Overview

This is not a traditional training role.

Outset Medical is seeking a Sales Training Manager who thrives at the intersection of commercial execution, clinical practice, and adult learning. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sales Effectiveness, this individual will play a critical role in building and scaling the capabilities of our commercial organization during a period of significant growth and evolution.
Success in this role requires far more than delivering training programs. The Sales Training Manager will spend significant time in the field observing sales representatives, clinical specialists, managers, and customers to understand how training translates into real-world performance. Those insights will be used to design, build, deliver, and continuously improve learning experiences that accelerate competency and improve business outcomes.
This role is ideal for someone who excels at facilitating training sessions and enjoys rolling up their sleeves, partnering closely with the field, building content from the ground up, and creating practical learning solutions that help people perform at a higher level. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable developing an e-learning module, analyzing performance gaps, and spending time in hospitals alongside customers and field teams.
This is a highly visible role with broad impact across the commercial organization and offers the opportunity to shape how Outset develops and enables talent for years to come.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Commercial Training Delivery

  • Facilitate onboarding and sales training programs.
  • Deliver training at national meetings, regional meetings, virtual sessions, and field-based programs.
  • Coach learners through application of selling skills in real-world selling and customer environments.
  • Support manager-led development and field coaching initiatives.

Field Performance & Learning Needs Assessment

  • Spend approximately 50% of time in the field partnering with sales representatives, clinical specialists, managers, and customers.
  • Observe real-world application of sales, clinical, and product knowledge to identify performance gaps and development opportunities.
  • Translate field observations into actionable training priorities and learning interventions.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to commercial leadership by connecting training efforts to business outcomes.
  • Gather voice-of-customer and voice-of-field insights to continuously improve learning experiences.

Learning Design & Content Development

  • Create training materials, job aids, assessments, facilitator guides, and digital learning assets.
  • Partner with SMEs to translate complex clinical and technical information into practical, learner-friendly content.
  • Continuously update and improve training materials based on business needs and field feedback.
  • Design and develop instructor-led, virtual, and e-learning experiences.
  • Support the build learning pathways for onboarding, role development, product launches, and commercial capability growth.

Learning Strategy & Measurement

  • Measure training effectiveness using business, behavioral, and learning metrics.
  • Monitor speed-to-competency, adoption, certification, and performance indicators.
  • Recommend improvements based on data, field observations, and learner feedback.
  • Support continuous evolution of the commercial enablement strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering sales training focused on solution selling skills, capital sales process, and sales methodology.
  • Experience selling into hospitals, health systems, or other complex healthcare environments.
  • Clinical, commercial, or healthcare operations experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience developing training content and e-learning modules from concept through deployment.
  • Strong instructional design skills and understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment with limited structure and competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across sales, clinical, marketing, and leadership teams.
  • Experience working directly with field teams to diagnose performance gaps and improve business outcomes.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience with LMS administration and digital learning platforms preferred.

Success in this role will be measured not by the volume of training delivered, but by the extent to which learning translates into improved field performance, faster competency development, and stronger commercial outcomes.
