Tax Management

TIAA’s Corporate Tax department is responsible for all tax matters of the TIAA group of companies and is seeking a Tax Manager. This position has primary responsibilities over accounting for income taxes and federal/state tax return review. The successful candidate will have a financial services background with broad experience in general income tax principles and corporate taxation. Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Monitor appropriate federal, state and local tax regulations and obligations.
  • Manage and review tax calculations for fixed income investments.
  • Review appropriate tax forms and instruments for filing with federal, state and local jurisdictions.
  • Manage and review the tax impacts in support of the enterprise financial planning process.
  • Work with business units to keep them informed about tax implications of their operation.
  • Support the financial reporting team to ensure timely and accurate reporting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors on financial reporting and compliance matters.
  • Support federal audit activities, including responding to information document requests.
  • Helping junior staff learn the appropriate regulations, filing procedures and internal communication needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of corporate tax experience including income tax provision experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of corporate tax experience including income tax provision experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Master’s degree in Tax
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to communicate with members at all levels internally and externally
  • Broad thinker with an ability to develop and deliver views on tax filing positions and the impact of transactions to corporate income tax provisions

Anticipated Posting End Date:

Base Pay Range: $101,300/yr. - $150,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
