Position Overview
The Supervising Psychiatrist provides psychiatric oversight and clinical governance for Thompson’s North Carolina programs.
This role is administrative and supervisory in nature and is designed to complement a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) who is responsible for day-to-day psychiatric care.
The Medical Director ensures:
- Clinical quality and compliance
- Appropriate treatment approaches
- Oversight of high-risk cases
- Alignment with evidence-based psychiatric practices
- Administrative requirements are complete for medical necessity documentation
Schedule
- Part Time (Up to 12 hours per week)
- Flexible / hybrid structure depending on operational needs
- Participation in key meetings (virtual or onsite as needed)
- Rotating on call after hours coverage with Psychiatric NP
What does this position offer?
- Starting Pay Range: $150.00-$250 hourly
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist in North Carolina
- Active NC medical license
- Enrolled and in good standing with NC Medicaid
- Experience in psychiatric care (child/adolescent experience preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to meet credentialing and privileging standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Note: All residential staff must pass a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and demonstrate proper physical Therapeutic techniques and holds.
