The role, in a nutshell:

At Chainguard, our user documentation is critical for our customers ability to leverage and integrate with our technical features. Documentation is a key part of the customer experience, and evolves in lock-step with our UI, API and CLI.  The Docs team is a part of the Product team and helps raise awareness of Chainguard and software supply chain security by creating approachable, educational, high-quality resources. We produce documentation, tutorials, and videos that explain our products and support broader understanding of software supply chain security, cybersecurity compliance, and related regulations. Chainguard Academy is the central home for all of this content.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, highly autonomous and excited about writing documentation and technical tutorials that developers and security professionals love.

All Chainguard writers are united by a strong technical background, an interest in both learning and teaching, helping developers and security professionals, and a desire to create the most useful resources possible.

If you feel that you have the background and knowledge for a Technical Writer position on the Docs team at Chainguard, we’d love to talk to you and see where there’s a fit!

What you’ll do:

  • Work collaboratively across the Chainguard Product and Engineering teams to produce product documentation to support the developers and security professionals leveraging our software security products
  • Scope and plan out a documentation strategy to support frictionless product adoption and retention
  • Maintain existing documentation by updating when software changes or other updates are made
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure topic coverage while avoiding overlap
  • Participate in Product initiatives (feature launch prep work, strategic tasks, etc.)
  • Act as “customer zero” by testing Chainguard products early, experimenting with beta features, and providing actionable feedback to improve usability and clarity
  • Assist other teams with documentation and technical writing tasks as prioritized

What we’re looking for:

Core requirements

    • Deep understanding of the cloud-native and/or open-source ecosystem, with particular focus on one or more of the following:
      • DevOps
      • Software Supply Chain security experience, including deep context on one or more of the following: container images, software packages, and/or virtual machines
      • Cybersecurity compliance and regulations
    • Experience writing and communicating about technical topics to technical audiences
    •
    • Strong research skills and ability to pick up new technical concepts quickly
    • Experience working closely with Product and Engineering teams (and other departments) is a plus

Nice to have:

    • Experience with a GitHub-based docs-as-code workflow a plus
    • Proactive use of AI, ML or other automation tools to augment workflow
    • Examples of using usage data to inform product decisions

We live and breathe our company values:

We are customer obsessed - We focus on delivering solutions to our customers that create value and make their lives better.

We have a bias for intentional action - We prioritize, plan, try things, and fail fast.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously (but we do serious work) - We are solving an important problem which takes focus, but we also like to enjoy the journey.

We trust each other and assume good intentions - We’re transparent with decisions to empower team members to make well informed decisions.

A few of the benefits we offer:

  • Flexible & Remote-First Culture: Work remotely with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, phone and internet costs.
  • Our Approach to Equity:  Receive stock options upon hire and promotion. Plus, you can participate in secondary offerings and have 10 years to exercise your options (yes, you read that correctly: 10 years!).
  • 100%  Covered Health Insurance: We cover 100% of your health, vision and dental insurance premiums for you and your dependents. Nothing comes out of your paycheck.
  • ∞ Flexible Time Off: Take the time you need – to do our best work, we need to recharge and reset.
  • 18 Weeks Paid Parental Leave: We offer 18 weeks for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents, with the option to use it all at once or throughout your child's first year.

If your experience is close but doesn’t fulfill all requirements, please apply. We’re building the best team in technology and are focused on hiring “Chainguardians'' with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
