At Inovalon, we believe that when our customers are successful in their missions, healthcare improves. Therefore, we focus on empowering them with data-driven solutions. And the momentum is building.
Together, as ONE Inovalon, we are a united force delivering solutions that address healthcare’s greatest needs. Through our mission-based culture of inclusion and innovation, our organization brings value not just to our customers, but to the millions of patients and members they serve.
Who You Are
You are a Staff Software Engineer L5 who brings deep technical expertise across distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and full-stack software development. You will play a key role on the team supporting the ScriptMed Cloud Platform, Inovalon’s pharmacy foundation, helping shape scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions in a complex, high-throughput, multi-tenant environment. You combine hands-on engineering execution with technical leadership, using sound architectural judgment, strong collaboration, and mentorship to elevate both platform performance and team effectiveness.
What You'll Do
• Design and deliver resilient, secure, and scalable distributed systems and microservices, using strong engineering analysis and architectural judgment to support long-term maintainability.
• Build and enhance the ScriptMed Cloud Platform across the full stack, including backend development in C# and .NET, SQL development and LINQ query optimization, and frontend development using JavaScript and Angular.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain microservices on Google Cloud Platform and Azure using Kubernetes-based infrastructure and cloud-native patterns that improve reliability and scalability.
• Create dashboards, configure alerting, and strengthen proactive platform health practices using observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana, ELK Stack (Logstash), and evolving Dynatrace capabilities.
• Raise engineering standards for scale, resiliency, security, and service sustainability by serving as a hands-on technical leader and subject matter expert.
• Scope and design modules and features independently, breaking complex requirements into clear, executable tasks that support efficient delivery.
• Influence service design, architecture, and engineering standards, and evaluate innovative technologies that expand infrastructure through scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Develop and use metrics to improve system performance, automation, and operational efficiency across complex computing environments.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across Inovalon to understand requirements, maintain a data-driven feedback loop, and mentor team members as they onboard and ramp up.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve critical issues outside standard business hours in alignment with defined SLAs, while handling PHI and PII in accordance with applicable compliance requirements.
What You'll Need
• Minimum 8 years of software development experience with a strong foundation in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and high-throughput platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology required, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Proficiency in C# and .NET, with hands-on SQL experience including LINQ query development and optimization.
• Full-stack development experience, including JavaScript and Angular for frontend work alongside .NET backend development.
• Experience deploying and managing microservices on Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure using Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, ELK Stack (Logstash), or comparable platforms, including building dashboards and configuring alerting.
• Understanding of PHI and PII handling requirements in a regulated healthcare environment.
• Experience with or strong familiarity using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude in day-to-day development workflows.
• Strong architectural and system design judgment, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly across engineering teams.
• Demonstrate growth potential and learning agility by quickly learning new technologies, expanding technical scope, and applying new knowledge to improve platform and team outcomes.
• Show leadership by influencing technical direction, mentoring peers, partnering effectively across teams, and constructively navigating differing viewpoints to move work forward.
• Adapt effectively to changing priorities, ambiguity, and evolving platform needs while staying focused on reliability, scalability, and delivery outcomes.
• Apply creative thinking to evaluate new technologies, improve engineering practices, and develop practical solutions to complex platform challenges.
• Use analytical skills to interpret system metrics, identify root causes, break down complex technical issues, and drive evidence-based decisions.
• Nice to have: Experience supporting an organization’s transition toward Dynatrace as observability practices mature.
