The Opportunity: Sr. Software Engineer - Credit Card

As a Senior Engineer on our Card team, you'll join a high-caliber engineering organization at a critical inflection point in Empower's growth trajectory. You'll work across our Card Spend and Card Payments domains, implementing key features that power our AI-driven credit platform. This role reports to the Engineering Manager for the team and collaborates with Staff and Principal Engineers to execute our card platform strategy.

Within our team structure, you'll independently execute on features of moderate to high complexity. You'll bring valuable opinions to discussions about product direction and team roadmap, helping shape how we approach critical challenges in both the spending and payments domains. While you'll have guidance from more senior team members, you'll be self-sufficient in managing your work and communicating progress to stakeholders.

Empower is a remote-first company. We drive connectivity through regular company offsites. Travel for company offsites is expected at a minimum 2 times a year.

How You'll Make an Impact

You'll make a significant impact by implementing and enhancing features that directly drive adoption and utilization of our card products. Our credit business represents a substantial and rapidly growing portion of Empower's revenue - your engineering contributions will be directly tied to achieving our ambitious growth targets.

We're looking for someone to improve and scale systems with proven market fit. instead, you'll be improving and scaling systems that have proven market fit. You'll implement features that enhance the user experience, optimize our infrastructure, and help transition our platform from serving our initial customer base to supporting a rapidly growing portfolio of card products.

Depending on team needs and your interests, you'll implement features across the card lifecycle, such as:

  • Enhancing user interfaces for transaction visibility and spending insights

  • Building components of our rewards system to increase engagement

  • Implementing account status management and payment scheduling features

  • Creating integration points with our AI-driven risk management systems

  • Developing tools for both customers and internal teams to manage card operations

Your work will span both customer-facing features that drive engagement and internal systems that ensure reliability and performance as we scale. You'll work with clear requirements but will have the autonomy to make implementation decisions and suggest improvements to product plans.
