At Trane Technologies, we use technology, data, and AI to help customers run their buildings, equipment, energy, and operations. As part of the Digital Legal Team, you'll help grow our digital products and services across the business.

You'll work directly with business, sales, product, engineering, AI, and cybersecurity teams to get new ideas to market and scale our digital offerings globally. Our job is to help the business move forward by providing practical guidance that supports growth, innovation, and smart risk-taking, not creating legal friction.  It's a chance to help build the digital products, services, and software at the center of our growth.

What you will do:

Reporting to the General Counsel, Digital, you'll serve as a senior member of the Digital Legal Team, an enterprise team that works across all our strategic business units to support our digital businesses and the teams driving them forward. In this role based in Davidson, NC, you'll partner closely with the business attorneys and contract management teams embedded within the SBUs.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a senior legal advisor to our digital business and product teams, guiding them as they grow, launch products, and expand.
  • Lead and negotiate complex and novel commercial and technology deals behind the digital business, including software, SaaS, cloud, AI, data, and partnership and channel agreements.
  • Work with product and engineering teams from idea to launch, finding practical answers that get connected products, digital services, and software out the door.
  • Drive partnerships, channel and ecosystem relationships, and new go-to-market models as the digital business grows.
  • Enable the sales and channel teams across our many business units as they sell digital offerings to customers and partners, including coaching them on how to negotiate commercial terms for digital products and services.
  • Lead cybersecurity legal support for digital businesses and partner closely with business unit and enterprise cybersecurity stakeholders.
  • Advise leadership on legal and market developments affecting the digital business and turn them into practical guidance the enterprise relies on.
  • Help lead customer resolution processes for the digital business, resolving issues quickly and preserving relationships.
  • Guide the procurement of digital technology from the legal perspective, enabling the business to build and operate digital capabilities with rigor.

What you will bring:

  • Juris Doctor degree and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8-12 years supporting commercial technology businesses, including negotiating software, SaaS, and digital product agreements. Experience in industrial, energy, building, or enterprise software is a plus.
  • Experience supporting product and engineering teams as they build and launch technology products.
  • Strong business judgment and a habit of giving clear, practical advice.
  • A strong negotiator and clear communicator who builds good working relationships with business, product, engineering, and other teams.
  • Experience with technology partnerships, channel and ecosystem deals, and global commercial arrangements across multiple regions.
  • A working knowledge of and genuine interest in cybersecurity, privacy, data, and AI, and the confidence to spot and work through issues raised in deals and product launches around the world.
  • A track record of building templates, playbooks, and tools that help teams work faster and more consistently.
  • Must be able to travel a minimum of 10% of the time.

Key Competencies:

  • Demonstrate a business-first mindset with a focus on enabling growth, not restricting progress.
  • Comfortable working without clear precedent as technology and business models change.
  • Ability to influence decisions and build trust across diverse stakeholders without relying on authority.
  • An owner’s mindset focused on identifying problems, solving them, and following through to completion.
  • Curious and committed to continuous learning, especially in technology, AI, and digital business.
  • Strong business partnering and internal stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, align cross-functional teams, and drive effective outcomes.
