The Hartford is seeking a Solution Architect to drive the transformation of the Employee Benefits technology ecosystem. This architect will define the target-state architectures that modernize legacy platforms, accelerate cloud adoption, integrate and scale complex systems, and create an AI-ready, agent-enabled ecosystem.  The successful candidate will influence leaders through effective communication and shape the future of our technology and business vision.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

 

What you’ll do (day to day)

  • Establish and drive clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies, with a focus on AI and strategic thinking.
  • Translate strategy into end‑to‑end solution designs spanning APIs, microservices, micro‑frontends and Single Page Apps, agentic AI, data, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Produce option analyses and decision records balancing strategic alignment, security, reliability, complexity, automation and cost.
  • Design solutions leveraging SaaS and Native Cloud architectures and services, focusing on rationalizing and modernizing assets.
  • Advance digital identity and zero‑trust patterns across experiences; ensure alignment with enterprise security standards.
  • Partner with value streams on roadmaps and Program Increments; ensure designs meet non‑functional expectations and are operable.
  • Evaluate and land emerging Technologies where it demonstrably improves outcomes.
  • Align to architecture governance: reviews, permits to build, conformance checks, and pragmatic exceptions when warranted.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 –8 years of experience in solution architecture, application architecture, or senior engineering roles within a large‑scale enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated impact designing cloud‑native solutions (AWS/GCP), APIs and integration patterns including:
    • Microservices and service-oriented architectures
    • Event driven and RESTful API based integration patterns
  • Hands‑on experience applying GenAI/ML to production use cases; familiarity with agentic architectures, RAG, semantic search, embedding models and LLMs.
  • Expertise with digital identity/CIAM and modern auth (OIDC/OAuth2) and aligning to enterprise security standards.
  • Experience developing or designing single-page applications utilizing contemporary frameworks such as Angular/React.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud-based solutions utilizing Microservices or API-based integrations with a clear understanding of JSON, REST, and HTTP standards.
  • Clear understanding of cloud, hybrid cloud, and container deployment architectures including building cloud-ready applications and container orchestration systems.
  • Fluency in platform and product thinking, solution KPIs, reliability engineering, and cost management.
  • Strong written, verbal, and influence skills—comfortable engaging senior leaders and mentoring engineers across a matrixed org.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent practical experience; relevant cloud/architecture certs a plus.
  • Insurance industry experience. Employee Benefits a plus, especially billing and workflow functions
  • Cloud certifications and architecture certifications are preferred.

 

Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$131,600 - $197,400
