Description
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Austin, TX location three times per week.
About the Role:
Note: This role can be hired at either the mid-level or senior-level depending on candidate experience, technical depth, and demonstrated impact.
We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to help build and enhance owner authenticated web experiences where customers interact with their vehicle, account, and ownership features across GM digital experiences.
This role will contribute across both the front end and back end, with a strong emphasis on React-based UI development and Java-based services. Within this space, the strategic web direction is aligned to the Global Web Platform stack built on React, while the current backend model includes Java and Spring Boot services that act as gateway and business-layer components.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer who can independently deliver moderate-scope features, resolve a wide range of issues in a well-defined problem space, and work with minimal guidance.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, test, and support scalable full stack solutions for owner authenticated web experiences across web applications and supporting backend services.
  • Develop responsive, accessible, and reusable UI components using React and modern front-end engineering practices aligned to GM web platform direction.
  • Build and enhance backend APIs and services using Java and Spring Boot to support customer-facing product capabilities and integrations.
  • Partner with product, design, and peer engineering teams to deliver features such as vehicle information, account functionality, notification settings, service-related experiences, and other owner-facing authenticated web capabilities.
  • Contribute to application architecture, technical design discussions, and implementation planning for moderate-scope features and sub-projects with limited guidance.
  • Create, modify, and test software based on clearly defined user and system requirements while maintaining quality, performance, and maintainability standards.
  • Troubleshoot non-routine issues in existing systems, identify root causes, and implement effective fixes through sound engineering judgment.
  • Support code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and production readiness activities across the software development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams and domains, understanding how this work connects to broader GM digital platform initiatives.
  • Suggest and implement improvements that increase developer velocity, code quality, platform consistency, and customer experience outcomes.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant software development experience.
  • Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot or comparable enterprise Java frameworks.
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating front-end applications with distributed backend services.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering fundamentals including version control, testing, debugging, and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Ability to work independently on standard requests and determine an appropriate course of action within broad guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple timelines and deliverables in a fast-moving engineering environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with peers and cross-functional stakeholders.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience modernizing legacy web applications to React-based architectures.
  • Experience with micro-frontend or modular web application patterns.
  • Familiarity with design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Experience supporting customer identity, account, profile, or ownership-related digital products.
  • Experience with cloud-native application development, observability, and production support in enterprise environments.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to engineering best practices within a team setting.
