Our Opportunity:
We are hiring a Software Engineer II to join the Developer Experience team in Boston, MA. At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents (and partners) everywhere! The Infrastructure Engineering organization develops services and tools to enable, support, and optimize software development processes and practices for Chewy engineers. In this role, you will develop new customer-facing features, enhance existing systems with automation, and improve observability of business applications that power the e-commerce platform and beyond. Further, you will have the opportunity to collaborate across the engineering organization to deliver self-service solutions which allow internal customers to move rapidly while building on Chewy's enterprise platforms!
What You'll Do:
  • Apply algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to build scalable and performant code.
  • Architect a resilient system for a customer-facing web application from scratch .
  • Partner with collaborators and technology teams on how to best implement desired customer features and improvements.
  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
  • Drive automated solutions to standardize methodologies, workflows, reusable modules, and tooling.
  • Contribute to team's standard processes for logging, testing, instrumentation, metrics, monitors, alerts, practices, and processes.
  • Conduct design and code reviews and improve engineering standards.
  • You will participate in setting guidelines for evolving development practices, as well as mentoring junior engineers.
  • Actively participate in scrum ceremonies such as grooming, planning, demos and retrospective.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, solving production issues and improving operational standards.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems
  • 3+ years of strong programming experience with Java, React, and Typescript
  • Ability to think independently and break down product requirements into well-defined tasks
  • Ability to collaborate with Team Members to ensure development efforts align with collaborator needs
  • Work efficiently in a production environment, solving, prioritizing and addressing production issues
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tool
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms
  • Experience with designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available systems

Bonus:
  • Experience in e-commerce
  • Experience with agile methodologies a plus
  • Experience with tools and environments (Ex. version control systems, bug/issue tracking tools)
  • Experience in Python
