As a member of the Android Systems team, you will bridge the gap between hardware and software to build the foundational platform for Toast POS devices. Whether it’s an international team looking to deploy a new on-device application, a customer needing a critical firmware update, an Enterprise group needing multi-location device tooling - our systems empower customers to set up, secure, and manage their devices from wherever they are.

- Frictionless Device Management: We are transforming the customer’s device lifecycle experience from out-of-the-box setup to continuous remote management, leveraging AI to dramatically reduce operator’s time spent troubleshooting and configuring devices.
- Hands-on design and implementation of Android system applications in Java or Kotlin that power Toast's device management suite, including device policy enforcement, out-of-box device setup, and firmware and app updates.
- Build features with a heavier focus on background services than UI, designed to run reliably on devices with little to no user interaction.
- Support bring-up of new Toast hardware and OS upgrades by making sure our system apps work as expected on each device type.
- Expand our end-to-end automated testing framework using Robot Framework to validate our apps against real Toast hardware and reduce manual regression testing.
- Investigate and debug production issues across Toast's device fleet.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware, QA, and other Software teams to build scalable systems.
- Make solid technical decisions, keeping software quality, security, and maintainability in mind.
- 3+ years of Android application development experience.
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Proficient in a modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or Kotlin.
- Experience with standard Android architecture patterns & libraries such as Hilt, AndroidX libraries, and Kotlin Coroutines.
- Experience triaging issues with Android tools such as adb and logcat.
- Proficiency with source control and code review tools such as Git, Gerrit, or GitHub.
- Experience writing automated tests using Robot, UIAutomator or other testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
- Experience with the Android framework, system services, or system apps written in Kotlin or Java.
- Understanding of mobile device management (MDM) concepts and enterprise device management platforms.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
