SONIFI Health isn’t just building interactive patient technology, we’re helping healthcare organizations improve care and create better experiences. Our team is passionate about solving real healthcare challenges, reinforcing our belief that healthcare is hospitality, and supporting what patients, clinicians, and families need most in care settings. If shaping what the future of healthcare looks like in hospitals and care centers across the country sounds like where you want your talents and career to go next, we’d love to welcome you to SONIFI Health.

We’re looking for a Software Architect to define the architecture, design standards, and technical direction of SONIFI Health’s software solutions. Reporting to the VP Healthcare Engineering, you’ll work across Engineering, Product, Program Management, Infrastructure, and Security to explore new technologies, research new integrations and capabilities, and define Patterns & Practices for the teams to exploit in the solution.  You will identify opportunities and recommend approaches that balance innovation, cost, maintainability, performance, security, compliance, and business objectives.

This is a remote, individual contributor role with significant technical leadership responsibility. You won’t directly manage a team, but you’ll influence how solutions are designed and delivered, establish architectural best practices across the Healthcare product portfolio, and provide technical direction, coaching, and development to software engineers.

What you’ll do

  • Define and document solution architectures for SONIFI Health applications, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, performance requirements, regulatory needs, and business objectives.
  • Lead high-level design decisions for complex projects, setting direction for system components, integrations, and technology selection while maintaining architectural consistency across applications for scalability, maintainability, and interoperability.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Program Managers to ensure architecture supports business strategy, budget, and delivery timelines, and collaborate with Software Engineering teams to translate architecture into detailed technical designs and guide implementation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies and frameworks, including AWS cloud platforms, messaging systems, databases, and integration tools, and champion microservices and modular architectures where appropriate to support maintainability and independent scaling.
  • Provide architectural oversight for system performance, reliability, security, and compliance, including HIPAA and SOC 2, while working closely with Infrastructure and Security teams to validate system design, cloud configurations, and deployment strategies.
  • Contribute to architecture governance through review boards, documentation standards, and technical decision records that promote consistent, high-quality technical decisions across the Healthcare product portfolio.
  • Mentor and coach software engineers in design thinking, code quality, architectural awareness, and technical decision-making while providing technical leadership without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Operations, and other cross-functional teams to support successful integrations with financial and operational systems, and communicate effectively with company leadership, customers, and vendors when needed.

What you’ll need

  • Prior experience using AI for software engineering (preferably Claude Code)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in architecture or technical leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise and solution architecture methodologies, domain-driven design, and software design patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting systems on AWS, including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, and related cloud technologies.
  • Proficiency with REST, GraphQL, and gRPC APIs; message queues including SNS, SQS, and RabbitMQ; and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with microservices, containerized environments including Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, data protection, and secure software development practices.
  • Exceptional communication and technical leadership skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas, influence technical decisions, build consensus across teams, and discuss technical issues in a way that supports positive business outcomes.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical depth with business priorities, exercise significant independent judgment, and develop pragmatic architectural recommendations for company leadership.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Healthcare technology experience, including exposure to EMR/EHR systems, HL7/FHIR standards, or healthcare data workflows.
  • Hands-on Android development using Kotlin is desired

Together, we can build your future!

We offer a competitive compensation package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off (PTO), flexible work arrangements, professional development opportunities, pet insurance, and on-demand pay. Compensation for this position generally starts at $120,000 to $160,000 annually and varies based on experience, education, specialty, training, and geographic location.
