What is The Role

The Elastic Platform Control Plane team is looking to add to our growing team! We are looking for creative and passionate people who can help us evolve and operate our control plane services (Self-Managed, Hosted, and Serverless), and accelerate our adoption of Kubernetes. Our distributed services constitute the orchestration layer of the Elastic Cloud and allow users to build new Elastic Clusters or expand existing ones. Our services run on multiple cloud service provider platforms and are built on Docker, Kubernetes, Go/Scala/Java, and custom orchestration architectures. We are a versatile group of engineers based all around the world, covering a multitude of countries and time zones. We tackle hard problems with creativity and resourcefulness. We also have lots of fun along the way! This is your chance to join a team with outstanding chemistry and help us make meaningful contributions to Elastic’s future. Day to day you will participate in coding, technical design, crafting solutions, debugging complicated failure scenarios, and prioritizing security, bug fixes, and features. You will analyze the current systems strengths and limitations, and think of ways in which to refactor our services to improve our operations and quality of our service. You will also participate in an oncall rotation to address operational events in a timely manner.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of the IAM codebases that power our Elastic Cloud offerings.
  • Operate our systems by participating in our oncall rotation, solving incidents in Production.
  • Collaborate with Support engineers in solving customer problems.
  • Proactively improve our existing services for security, stability, and reliability.
  • Design, build, and maintain software supporting our cloud offerings and on-prem services.
  • Debug production technical issues involving distributed systems, virtualization, containers, and microservices.
What You Bring
  • A record of software engineer excellence, delivering high-quality code to Production.
  • Solid experience with JVM-based programming languages.
  • 3+ years working as a backend engineer in the IAM space OR 5+ years working as a backend engineer
  • Deep passion for automation and for raising the quality bar.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • You have a proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code, while still owning the final outcomes.
  • You possess the ability to collaborate across teams and seamlessly transition between different projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities.
  • You can work autonomously, drive decisions and results in a distributed team by leveraging asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
  • You are eligible to work in DoD Impact Level 5 or above cloud service environments
Bonus Points
  • Scala and Golang experience
  • Technical depth in one or more technologies relevant for SaaS.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes (k8s) experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing software on the cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Practical knowledge of Elasticsearch.
