Role & Responsibilities

The Senior Sales Engineer is a strategic, client-facing technical expert responsible for driving the pre-sales process and designing high-performance, scalable Shopify solutions tailored to client needs. This role is critical in aligning Avex’s technical vision with business development efforts to secure new partnerships and fuel agency growth.

Working alongside Sales, Partnerships, and Solutions teams, the Senior Sales Engineer leads technical discovery conversations, evaluates requirements, and translates business goals into feasible Shopify architectures. They develop and present tailored solutions, create technical documentation and demo environments, and contribute to proposals that clearly articulate how Avex will deliver value.

While their core responsibilities are focused on pre-sales, the Senior Sales Engineer ensures a seamless transition into delivery by onboarding the assigned project team—sharing technical notes, architectural plans, and context to support successful execution. They do not participate in hands-on delivery but ensure delivery teams are well-prepared and aligned from day one.

Beyond deal support, this role champions scalable solution patterns, fosters internal knowledge-sharing, and informs Avex’s service evolution with insights from the field. The Senior Sales Engineer bridges the gap between client needs and Avex’s technical capabilities—ensuring every solution sold is not only sound, but also strategically aligned for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery sessions with prospects to understand business goals, functional requirements, and platform constraints.
  • Design scalable, high-performance Shopify solutions tailored to client needs, budgets, and growth plans.
  • Partner with Sales and Strategy teams to craft winning proposals, pitch decks, and technical solution documentation.
  • Create and deliver demos, proof-of-concepts, and technical presentations that clearly articulate Avex’s Shopify expertise and value proposition.
  • Assess technical feasibility of proposed solutions and proactively identify risks or limitations during pre-sales.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor in client conversations, answering questions and clarifying solution details during the sales process.
  • Document architectural plans, integration details, and platform recommendations to ensure clarity across teams.
  • Onboard internal delivery team post-sale by transferring key technical context, notes, and proposed architecture.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to refine solution frameworks, pricing models, and services packaging.
  • Provide market feedback and technical insights to influence Avex’s service offerings, tooling, and pre-sales processes.
  • Stay current with Shopify platform updates, ecosystem tools, and emerging technologies to maintain Avex’s competitive edge.
Requirements

  • Proven expertise in e-commerce platforms, with a minimum 3 years experience working on Shopify, including understanding Liquid templating, customizations, and API integrations.
  • Understanding of frontend and backend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale replatforming initiatives, particularly from enterprise platforms like Magento and Salesforce to Shopify.
  • Strong understanding of data structure, mapping, and API integration challenges during platform migrations, with a focus on minimizing data loss and maintaining workflow integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically, aligning technical goals with business objectives and growth opportunities.
