Develop and optimize enterprise Power BI semantic models and reports using Microsoft Fabric and Snowflake. Responsibilities include DAX and Power Query development, incremental refresh, large-scale data modeling, performance and capacity troubleshooting, RLS administration, Git-based deployments, refresh automation with PowerShell and REST APIs, and source-to-model reconciliation. The role partners with data engineering and business stakeholders to deliver scalable reporting solutions and document root-cause findings.

Job Description — Power BI Senior Developer
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Power BI Developer to join our BI/Data Analytics team, supporting a large-scale enterprise semantic model built on Microsoft Fabric and Snowflake. You'll work on a mission-critical reporting platform serving sales, labor, attendance, and financial reconciliation across the organization, with a strong focus on performance optimization, data modeling best practices, and scalable report development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Power BI semantic models using TMDL and PBIP (Git-integrated) project format — no reliance on manual .pbix-only workflows.
- Develop and optimize DAX measures, calculated columns, hierarchies, and relationships across large (multi-GB, 80M+ row) fact tables.
- Implement and maintain incremental refresh policies (rolling window/incremental partitioning) to manage large historical datasets efficiently.
- Diagnose and resolve refresh failures, memory/capacity issues, and performance bottlenecks (VertiPaq Analyzer, DAX Studio, Fabric Capacity Metrics).
- Design and apply surrogate key strategies to reduce model size and improve query/relationship performance on high-cardinality columns.
- Build and maintain Power BI reports following established design/SSA standards (report chrome, slicers, drill-through, bookmarks, conditional formatting).
- Collaborate with data engineering teams on Snowflake/dbt pipelines feeding the semantic model; troubleshoot source-to-model data reconciliation issues.
- Manage deployments across DEV/PROD workspaces via deployment pipelines and Git-based version control (branching, PRs, code review).
- Use PowerShell / REST APIs (Enhanced Refresh API, XMLA endpoint) to automate refresh operations, monitor refresh history, and script recovery/reload procedures.
- Perform root cause analysis on data discrepancies, broken relationships, blank/missing values, and reporting anomalies; document findings clearly for stakeholders.
- Manage Row-Level Security (RLS), workspace/app permissions, and capacity (SKU) planning for Fabric/Premium.
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable model and report designs; write clear documentation and user stories (Jira/Agile).
Required Skills & Experience
- 6+ years hands-on experience with Power BI (Desktop, Service, Premium/Fabric capacities).
- Strong proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M), including complex measures, time intelligence, and native query optimization.
- Deep understanding of semantic model design: star schema, relationships, cardinality, VertiPaq storage engine, and performance tuning techniques.
- Experience with incremental refresh, large fact table management, and memory/capacity troubleshooting in Premium/Fabric environments.
- Working knowledge of Snowflake (SQL, views, warehouses) and ideally dbt for source data transformations.
- Experience with Git-based Power BI development (PBIP/TMDL format), branching strategies, and pull request workflows.
- Familiarity with PowerShell and Power BI REST APIs for refresh automation and administration.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills — ability to trace issues from report visuals through DAX/relationships back to source data.
- Excellent communication
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Fabric Capacity Metrics, OneLake).
- Exposure to DAX Studio / Tabular Editor / VertiPaq Analyzer.
- Familiarity with Jira/Agile delivery processes.
