The Strategy, Client Offer & Product (SCOP) subdivision aligns business strategy, investment products, retirement consulting, and enablement functions to help ensure the right products and services are getting to the plan sponsors, participants, and consultants that can benefit from them.

The Investment Product Strategy team supports these goals by owning the comprehensive investment product strategy: driving participant financial success by evolving the VWS investment product line-up and accelerating growth of investment products in partnership with distribution teams.

As leader of Product Insights on this team you will have a unique player/coach opportunity to run cross-category strategy and support:

Coach: Manage team of analysts that support entire VWS Investment Product Strategy team (broader team includes senior specialists that own prioritized product categories).

Player: Collaborate with Head of VWS Investment Product Strategy to drive the strategic execution of:

  • Investment Thought Leadership: Manage end-to-end life cycle of investment thought leadership and build strategic partnerships with content creators to influence research needs
  • Holistic Product Strategy: Develop and drive execution of comprehensive investment product strategy for VWS, including maturing the Product Health Dashboard to proactively monitor risks and opportunities
  • Custom offers: Own the maintenance of the custom target date and active in advice offers, which are uniquely VWS investment product offers that cross multiple categories and are not prioritized for proactive attention.  

Core Responsibilities

  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Leads a team responsible for conducting research and making recommendations on new investment products and changes to existing investment products. Conducts deep analysis of strategic, competitive, client and market issues related to Vanguard's investment product line-up. Gathers qualitative and quantitative data from internal and external sources to make data-based recommendations about new products or changes to existing products.
  • Develops and implements plans to achieve departmental objectives. Works with other department leaders in the planning, development, and execution of short- and long-range goals. Identifies strategic topics and presents research to business leadership.
  • Serves as a thought leader to the businesses to determine optimal product lineups to meet investors' needs. Provides leadership around the development and maintenance of a clear investment product strategy across the organization.
  • Develops and maintains broad and deep knowledge of the asset management industry, market and product, and competitive dynamics. Uses knowledge to derive and communicate product-related insights at internal forums.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Eight years related work experience, including five years experience in product management and investment analysis/strategy. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • CFA preferred.
