The Senior Editorial Designer will create covers and layouts for various publications, collaborate with photographers, and manage production processes while using Adobe CC tools.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
- Design cover and cover stories for 2-3 markets per week for print and digital platforms
- Design covers for awards sections, focus sections and other special publications
- Design Book of Lists cover and chapter pages, and project manage the Book of Lists production process
- As needed, help with design of reporter pages, news pages, special sections, Lists, Leads and other inside pages
- Create social media graphics daily
- Collaborate with photographers on front end of the planning process to elevate photography for cover stories, awards sections and other signature content features
- Act as weekly contact with printer
- Tone photos, create PDFs and send PDFs to printer; upload PDFs for digital edition
- Attend and participate in editorial planning meetings
- Identify and attend training opportunities
- Take on other duties assigned by Regional Creative Director as needed
- Background in journalism, design and data visualization
- Media design experience and expertise in Adobe CC design tools — InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat
- Experience editing and toning photos, creating illustrations, and coming up with non-narrative, creative visual solutions
- Experience working with third-party design tools such as DataWrapper, MapCreator and others
- Understanding of local market newsrooms and how they operate on a daily basis
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills with a strict attention to details, process and deadlines
