The Sr Director, Market Access will have direct responsibility for working with commercial payers to establish medical policy, in-network status to maximize access of CareDx products for patients and providers. This position is key to establishing and maintaining dedicated partnerships with critical national and regional payers in an assigned territory. The position requires frequent interactions with senior level medical directors, national and regional health plan account contracting directors, and the CareDx executive leadership team, for which exceptional communication and presentation skills are key. The role will also play a crucial role in developing tailored payer value messages, value dossiers, and other materials relevant to the payer stakeholder.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Will be responsible for articulating and selling the company value proposition to national, regional payers, Lab Benefit Managers, and ACOs
  • Create unique synergies and partnerships that leverage the CareDx portfolio and accelerate patient access to our products and testing services.
  • Work collaboratively with company business units (Sales and Marketing), Medical Affairs, Market Access team members, Patient Advocacy, and Government Affairs to achieve new or improved coverage policies, develop value-based solutions for payers, develop bespoke strategic partnerships including portfolio contracts featuring our first in class next generation testing services, patient support programs and telehealth programs.
  • Design and implement strategies leveraging, KOLs, Patient Advocacy Groups, state regulations, clinical and cost data in order to negotiate favorable medical policy/coverage with payers
  • Lead and drive the in-network contracting with regional and national payers, negotiating favorable reimbursement rates and network status. 
  • Develop and execute regional and national market access strategies & target pipeline aimed at increasing payer coverage for CareDx products.
  • Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with key decision-makers at payer organizations, including medical directors, reimbursement specialists, and policy makers. 
  • Work closely with internal teams, including revenue cycle management, sales, and clinical, to gather and present relevant data to support reimbursement and policy decisions, demonstrating the value of CareDx products. 
  • Monitor competitor strategies and market dynamics to identify opportunities and threats in payer contracting and medical policy. Use insights to inform strategy and stay ahead in the market. 
  • Partner with sales, marketing, clinical, and regulatory teams to ensure alignment on market access priorities and provide insights that help shape the broader strategy. 

Skills and Capabilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, healthcare, business, or related field. Advanced degree (MBA, MHA, or equivalent masters) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in market access, payer contracting, reimbursement strategy, or similar roles within the diagnostics or medical device industry.
  • Proven experience in driving in-network contracting and securing positive medical policies with regional and national payers.
  • Strong understanding of payer requirements, reimbursement processes, and coverage criteria for diagnostic products.
  • Ability to manage multiple payer relationships and projects simultaneously with a focus on achieving measurable results.
  • Must be able to travel at least 20% of the time.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to resolve complex payer issues.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement systems, including commercial payers, Medicare, Medicaid, and government programs.
  • Ability to present clinical and economic evidence in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Ability to analyze payer trends, competitive dynamics, and market access opportunities to inform strategy.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to work independently and drive results.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and results-driven with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to the fast-changing healthcare and reimbursement environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence key decision-makers.

This is the anticipated base salary range in the United States. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. CareDx is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
