The Sr. Director, Market Access - Payer Value & Access Strategies is a transformative leader within Abbott Diabetes Care who is entrusted with shaping and executing a bold, forward-looking vision that expands access and affordability for people living with diabetes across two critical domains: Payer Value Proposition Development & Field Enablement and Patient Support Services Affordability Solutions.  This role demands a dynamic strategist who thrives on innovation, inspires cross-functional teams, and navigates complex change with confidence and clarity.

What You’ll Work On

Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Accountable to define and champion a compelling access strategy across two critical domains: Payer Value Proposition Development & Field Enablement and Patient Support Services Affordability Solutions. Inspire teams to pursue a shared vision that elevates access and affordability across the diabetes care portfolio.
  • Responsible to design and evolve affordability solutions that balance patient financial support with insured coverage pull-through. Experience and relationships managing partnerships with vendors specializing in Benefits Verification, Hub Services, Field Reimbursement, Prior Authorization, and Copay Support Programs.
  • Leader must own, manage and grow relationships with external advisors, market access agencies, and access vendors to communicate the brand access vision and work with partners to build and execute access strategies and programs, in order to amplify access impact. 

Data-Driven Market Access Strategy

  • The ideal leader will harness insights from data, market research, and field intelligence to craft persuasive payer engagement strategies. Leverage deep expertise in managing market access agencies and vendors to deliver differentiated value propositions that resonate with payers.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence

  • Accountable to establish seamless collaboration between Global Brand, U.S. Marketing, and Commercial teams to ensure payer strategies are aligned with brand objectives and market realities.
  • Leader will engage internal stakeholders across Market Access peer functions, HCP Sales, U.S and Brand Marketing, Contracts & Pricing, Finance, Regulatory, Privacy, Procurement to ensure strategic alignment and operational excellence.
  • Responsible to collaborate with HEOR, Medical Outcomes, and Global Market Access teams to guide evidence generation strategies—clinical, economic, and advocacy—that support market expansion and influence health technology assessments and policy.

Field Enablement & Market Execution

  • Leader will empower field teams—including Market Access Account Management, HCP Sales, and Trade/DME—with the tools, training, and messaging needed to drive coverage and affordability messaging, payer coverage pull-through and patient support program adoption.
  • Accountable to lead a team that manages access and sales enablement efforts to ensure consistent, compelling delivery of the payer value proposition across national and regional accounts.

Insight-Driven Innovation                                                                                       

  • Leader will deeply understand payer behaviors and motivations, translating insights into innovative strategies that redefine engagement with payers and channel partners.
  • Leader will partner with analytics and insights teams to conduct market research, uncover payer voice-of-customer (VOC), assess competitive threats, and identify new opportunities for growth and differentiation with both payers and in access and affordability solutions.

Required Qualifications

We are seeking a transformative leader with a minimum of 10–15+ years of progressive experience in market access, payer strategy, and patient support services within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industries. The ideal candidate will bring a bold vision, strategic agility, and a proven ability to lead change across complex organizations.

  • BS/BA required (sciences or business/finance acceptable)
  • Transformational Leadership: Proven ability to build and inspire high-performing teams, drive cultural change, and develop future leaders in dynamic, matrixed environments.
  • Strategic Market Access Expertise: Deep knowledge of U.S. reimbursement, distribution, and access in pharmacy and medical benefits, with track record of translating insights into innovative payer and patient support strategies.
  • Change Management Execution: Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide initiatives, simplifying complexity, and aligning cross-functional stakeholders to drive strategic transformation.
  • Executive Influence & Communication: Skilled in engaging senior leadership, advocating for strategic priorities, and communicating complex payer dynamics with clarity and impact.
  • Analytical & Competitive Insight: Strong strategic and analytical capabilities to assess market trends, shape competitive positioning, and deliver actionable, forward-looking access strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA optional but preferred
  • A solid understanding of the commercial device market with pharmacy channel experience is a plus.  Backgrounds in pricing, reimbursement, payer strategy, health economic, strategic marketing, strategic planning, business development and finance are desired but not required.
  • An understanding of the U.S. healthcare, regulatory and pricing environment
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy, OTC or DME channels for fulfillment
  • Proven ability to work and communicate across a matrix organization and ability to lead projects and getting alignment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficient in English
  • Possess strong analytical skills, business and financial acumen, and capable of effective use of market research, forecasts and business analytics
  • Demonstrate strong customer orientation/focus
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Powerpoint
  • Ability to connect analytics with the overarching business questions, and can understand the link between access strategy and analytic insights
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

The base pay for this position is

$168,000.00 – $336,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
