We’re seeking a Senior Business Analyst who will lead critical elements of product discovery, requirements definition, and strategic insight development. This individual will operate as a key partner to Product Leadership, driving clarity across complex workflows and customer needs while ensuring alignment between Product, UX, Engineering, and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of K–12 education systems (SIS experience preferred) and can autonomously synthesize insights from customers, compliance requirements, and market data into actionable product deliverables. This position reports to Product Leadership and collaborates closely with Product Managers, UX, QA, and Engineering.
Key ResponsibilitiesRequirements & Product Definition
- Lead the discovery, documentation, and refinement of business and functional requirements in partnership with Product Managers and Product Leadership.
- Own the creation of clear, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria to guide development and QA.
- Partner with the UX team to ensure design solutions align with business goals, user needs, and cross-system workflows—providing strategic guidance on feasibility and edge cases.
- Create supporting documentation such as process flows, functional specifications, and release notes.
- Play a key role in backlog management — advising Product Managers on prioritization based on risk, customer value, and technical implications.
- Act as a subject-matter expert on business processes, compliance rules, and system workflows.
Customer & Market Insights
- Design and execute studies, interviews, or surveys to gather customer insights and validate concepts.
- Form hypotheses around user pain points and identify opportunities for innovation or process improvement.
- Lead customer feedback sessions, analyze results, surface insights, and ensure that customer perspective is represented throughout product development.
- Conduct competitive and market research to inform product strategy and advise
- Product Leadership on positioning and gaps.
Strategic & Analytical Contributions
- Synthesize data from customer, compliance, and system sources to identify trends and emerging opportunities.
- Translate complex specifications into actionable engineering documentation.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership with clarity and data-backed reasoning.
- Use AI tools to accelerate research, documentation, and release management workflows.
- Occasionally travel (approximately 10–20 days per year) to visit customers, attend user groups, or gather field insights.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or related role in
- software development.
- Experience in K–12 education technology required; strong familiarity with SIS systems and state reporting preferred.
- Demonstrated experience owning complex requirements, cross-team workflows, and strategic analysis.
- Proven ability to conduct customer and market research, synthesize findings, and guide strategic product decisions.
- Advanced proficiency in user story writing, process mapping, systems thinking, and agile methodologies.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity and driving clarity in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in modern PM and documentation tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Guru).
- Familiarity with AI tools for productivity, analysis, and documentation (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude AI, Copilot).
