About the role
As a Sales Development Representative on Vanguard’s Financial Advisor Services (FAS) team, you’ll play an important role in helping financial advisors deliver better outcomes for their clients—while supporting Vanguard’s mission to give investors the best chance for investment success. This role is intentionally designed as an early-career opportunity, ideal for recent graduates or those beginning their careers in financial services who are eager to learn, grow, and build a long-term future at Vanguard. You’ll gain broad exposure to our products, markets, and advisor relationships, with a clear path to developing into a wholesaler.

What you’ll do

  • Respond to inbound calls from financial advisors with questions about market trends, Vanguard products, and competitor offerings.

  • Learn how to profile advisor practices, identify client needs, and discuss appropriate Vanguard investment solutions.

  • Route qualified opportunities to the Financial Advisor Services sales team and support the progression of those relationships.

  • Partner with internal and external sales executives and FAS leaders by coordinating and executing sales-support activities, including:

  • Direct mail and email outreach

  • Internal and external marketing campaigns

  • Creation of customized prospect and client target lists used in the sales process

  • Tracking and reporting on campaign activity and results

  • Research and respond to requests from sales executives related to client needs, product questions, competitive insights, and sales or marketing materials.

  • Collaborate with teams across Vanguard to gather, assemble, and deliver information accurately and on time to internal partners and external advisors.

  • Participate in outbound call campaigns to engage prospective financial advisors identified through transaction data, registration lists, or other lead sources.

  • Contribute to special projects and take on additional responsibilities as you continue to build skills and experience.

What it takes

  • Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam required prior to hire.

  • Series 7 and Series 63 licenses currently held, or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of hire.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly by phone, email, and web meetings.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision while following established processes.

  • Comfort collaborating with partners at different levels across the organization.

  • Sound judgment and a thoughtful approach to decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and contact management databases.

Skills and interests that will help you succeed

  • Interest in sales, relationship management, and developing a client-facing career in financial services.

  • Curiosity about how financial advisors run their practices and make investment decisions.

  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and continuously build product and market knowledge.

  • A collaborative mindset and openness to feedback and coaching.

  • Adaptability and comfort navigating new situations as you grow in the role.

Career development

  • This role is part of Vanguard’s long-term talent pipeline for client-facing sales careers. Successful Sales Development Representatives gain the foundational skills, licenses, and experience needed to progress into wholesaler roles within Financial Advisor Services.

Special factors

  • Licensing: SIE required pre-hire; Series 7 and Series 63 required (held or obtained within 90 days of hire).
