This role manages complex projects involving custom process equipment, integrated treatment systems, field construction, and startup at active industrial facilities.

Projects typically involve industrial wastewater generated within manufacturing or processing environments, requiring engineered treatment solutions to meet municipal discharge limits, reuse requirements, or environmental compliance standards. The Project Manager II is expected to understand how wastewater systems are designed, fabricated, installed, and commissioned, and to lead execution across engineering, supply chain, construction, and field services.

This role serves as the single point of accountability for project performance, balancing safety, quality, schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction.

Systems & Equipment Scope

The Project Manager II will manage projects involving Xylem’s industrial wastewater and pretreatment portfolio, including but not limited to:

  • Bag Filters

  • Ballasted Clarification

  • Continuous Precipitation Systems

  • Neutralization Systems

  • Membrane Microfiltration Systems

  • Batch Treatment Systems

  • Equalization Tanks

  • Pump Skids

  • Chemical Reaction Tanks

  • Chemical Makeup and Delivery Systems

  • Sludge Thickeners

  • RO Pretreatment Systems

Projects may include stand‑alone equipment, integrated process trains, or full wastewater treatment systems, often executed within operating industrial facilities with strict safety and outage constraints.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead end‑to‑end execution of industrial water and wastewater treatment projects, from handoff through commissioning and closeout

  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and work breakdown structures

  • Manage projects involving clarification, precipitation, neutralization, filtration, sludge handling, pumping, and pretreatment processes

  • Proactively identify and manage project risks, including safety, constructability, site access, permitting, vendor performance, and customer operational constraints

  • Control project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, change management, and margin protection

  • Drive timely resolution of technical, commercial, and execution issues

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary customer interface throughout execution

  • Communicate clearly and consistently on scope, schedule, risks, changes, and milestones

  • Manage customer expectations during design, fabrication, installation, and startup

  • Coordinate execution around live plant operations, shutdown windows, and production priorities

Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Lead coordination across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and field service teams

  • Manage contractor and vendor performance to ensure alignment with scope, safety, quality, and schedule requirements

  • Support and lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning activities

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all project phases

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, site safety requirements, and Xylem quality standards

  • Address non‑conformances, field issues, and warranty items through structured corrective action

Change Management & Commercial Control

  • Identify, document, and negotiate scope changes and change orders

  • Ensure all changes are properly approved, priced, and incorporated into project controls

  • Protect Xylem’s commercial interests while maintaining positive customer relationships

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely project documentation, including schedules, cost reports, risk registers, and forecasts

  • Prepare internal and customer‑facing project status reports and reviews

  • Lead project closeout, including financial reconciliation, documentation turnover, and lessons learned

Mentorship & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior project managers or project coordinators

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project execution standards, tools, and best practices

  • Share lessons learned to improve future project performance

High‑Impact Behaviors

  • Ownership & Accountability: Takes full responsibility for project outcomes

  • Execution Focus: Drives results in complex, fast‑paced industrial environments

  • Collaboration: Works effectively across engineering, operations, and field teams

  • Customer Mindset: Balances commercial discipline with long‑term customer relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of project management experience in industrial, construction, water, or wastewater environments

  • Demonstrated experience managing industrial wastewater or pretreatment systems

  • Strong understanding of construction execution, contractor management, and industrial job sites

  • Proficiency with project scheduling and cost control tools
