Position Summary

The Production Underwriter for RT Connector is responsible for building and maintaining a book of business by proactively engaging with retail agents, assessing and analyzing insurance risks, determining coverage terms, and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The role is focused on the Property & Casualty sector, with an emphasis on driving revenue for RT Connector through sound underwriting practices and sales efforts. Responsibilities include soliciting clients, assessing risk, pricing coverage, and binding policies via RT Connector, and other carrier partners, while cultivating strong relationships with agency partners. The position also involves collaborating with carriers, negotiating terms, analyzing exposures, and building a portfolio.

What will your job entail?

Production

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail agents to drive submission flow and bind rates in the Connector, through proactive outreach and solution selling.

  • Provide responsive, knowledgeable support to agents throughout the quoting and binding process.

  • Utilize the Connector to quote, bind, and issue policies efficiently through a submission inbox.

  • Engage with non-active registered users of RT Connector to elicit feedback, conduct meetings, appetite education and Connector demos to promote our platform and drive adoption.

  • Improve revenue retention by engaging with retail agents on specific renewal quotes to provide advice, support and direction.

  • Establish and monitor the production pipeline of new & renewal business.

  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities and underserved segments.

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to help improve KPIs and Connector adoption among registered users.

  • Coordinate with the RT Binding teams to refer accounts and relationships back and forth between the digital and traditional placement streams.

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Assess and price renewals, new business, and endorsements according to Connector guidelines and/or carrier underwriting manual and within their authority level.

  • Select and/or verify class code and premium base and rating exposure

  • Determine appropriate credits and/or debits to obtain a fair and sustained premium for risk.

  • Determine coverage forms and necessary endorsements.

  • Effectively communicate quote conditions to the client

  • Maintains strong communication with internal teams. Provide feedback to the product and tech teams to enhance platform functionality and user experience.

  • Provide accurate documentation in the file and/or in electronic notes of underwriting thought process.

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation for issuance of policies.

  • Order/review inspection reports to assess risk quality and to confirm exposure base accuracy.

  • Ensure that information available from internal and external resources is properly integrated into underwriting decision making.

  • Drive a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding insureds’ risks. Collaborate with other underwriters and team members to gain a comprehensive understanding of the exposure and best means to provide coverage.

Work Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; Business Administration, Risk Management preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in P&C Binding Authority and Insurance Underwriting with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 years of experience and a Master’s degree.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Prescribed: Minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses

  • Preferred: Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)

The target salary range for this position is $96,000.00 - $120,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
