About TEGNA

TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.

WCNC Charlotte is looking for a strong linear news producer who understands that great broadcast television is still the backbone of local journalism and who is excited about how digital streaming expands that impact. We are a newsroom built on urgency, journalistic standards, and live coverage that serves our community in real time. Our broadcast newscasts set the tone. Our streaming platforms extend the conversation. The producer in this role will lead daily linear newscasts while contributing to a newsroom culture that thinks beyond a single show. This is a newsroom that moves fast. When breaking news hits, we stay on. When weather turns dangerous, we go live. We expect producers who can make confident editorial decisions, build strong rundowns under pressure, and execute clean, compelling broadcasts that hold viewers. If you believe great writing matters, pacing matters, facts matter and you're someone who wants to WIN - You'll fit right in.
Responsibilities:

  • Lead the newscast and/or streaming show from ideation through execution — editorially and visually.
  • Pitch urgent, community-centered stories and build rundowns that reflect WCNC’s standards for accuracy, fairness, and impact.
  • Execute continuous live coverage during breaking news, severe weather, and major community events.
  • Produce across platforms, writing for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social with platform-specific intent.
  • Use data and audience insights to refine content and improve engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with newsroom leadership, anchors, digital teams, and production staff to maintain editorial consistency and technical excellence.
  • Innovate in storytelling and show design, bringing new energy to both streaming and linear formats.
  • Uphold inclusive storytelling by elevating diverse voices and perspectives in the Charlotte community.

Requirements:

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years of producing experience (or equivalent newsroom experience with strong show ownership).
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to make confident decisions in high-pressure, live environments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple elements of a show under tight deadlines.
  • Clear communicator who can lead a team through breaking news calmly and decisively.
  • Comfortable with evolving production systems and new technology; experience with vMix, Edius, ENPS, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Have a winning mentality, a growth mindset and a team-first attitude would be a perfect fit.
Benefits:

TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.

* Some jobs are covered by a collective bargaining agreement and thus some or all of the benefits described herein may not apply. For example, some newsroom bargaining unit employees receive health and retirement benefits under plans administered by the union.
