Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward.
We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the Role:

Remitly is seeking a pragmatic, hands-on security expert to serve as the Security Technical Lead for our Security & Privacy (S&P) organization. This is the highest-leverage individual contributor role on our team. You lead by example, design and implement solutions that fit the constraints of a fast-moving business, and you deliver agentic code to production every week alongside the other S&P builders whose standard you set.

Breadth, speed, and impact are part of what makes this role exciting. Deep expertise in security engineering, application security, and AI development, combined with strength in cloud security, identity and access management, cryptography, and a passion for supporting and developing others will be part of your success in this role.

We are deeply AI-forward, and this role is a chance to reinvent how security is delivered across Remitly. If you are technically fearless and are passionate about shaping how financial services are secured in a rapidly changing world, we want you on our team.

You Will:

  • Set and Demonstrate Technical Direction: Set the direction and demonstrate it through hands-on delivery of ambitious solutions across a breadth of security domains. You will define what technical excellence means across all of Remitly S&P and make it a way of life for builders in every job function.

  • Build Agentic Platforms for All of S&P: Design, build, and ship the agents, skills, and tooling that every S&P team relies on, spanning application and infrastructure security, identity, privacy, governance, and risk. These platforms give the organization leverage orders of magnitude beyond what humans alone can deliver.

  • Develop Builders Across Every Job Family: Raise the technical bar for everyone around you, so that everyone is leaning into AI and emerging technology to reinvent security. Bring people up from every job family as builders who use agents and code to land outcomes. Encourage the team to remove friction, waste, and unnecessary processes through innovation. Your success and the team’s will be intertwined.

  • Advise Leaders Across the Company: Serve as the trusted technical advisor to engineering leaders and executives through VP, at the intersection of security and software engineering. You will build trust across teams and set the standard for secure design.

  • Ship at an Uncommon Pace: You land production features and controls in your first month. By your first year, work that was once manual runs on automation the team trusts, and the paved roads you built are simply how new services get built.

  • Navigate Security and Business Enablement Tradeoffs: Balance security investment against the pace of innovation in a rapidly evolving technical field. Partner with leaders across the company to empower them to make principled security risk decisions.

You Have:

  • Proven software engineering depth: you’ve built, operated, and led major production services at scale.

  • Hands-on experience delivering production or open source software through agentic development, shipping code every week.

  • Built foundational security controls and security automations using agent frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, and CrewAI, and languages like Python and Golang.

  • Demonstrated ownership across a breadth of security functions at organizations with 1,000+ users. Security engineering, AI, and application security are where you are the deepest, with mastery that is evident to any engineer who works alongside you.

  • Command of cloud and infrastructure security, identity and access management, cryptography, and data protection, deep enough to lead the hardest problems in any one of them.

  • Track record of becoming an expert in an unfamiliar security domain quickly, then using that depth to retire entire classes of risk through agentic development.

  • Landed security capabilities that measurably accelerate development and delivery.

  • Experience building on cloud-native infrastructure, like AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes.

  • Mentored engineers who went on to become technical leaders themselves. You are a talent magnet and the people who have worked with you are eager to do it again.

  • Technical fearlessness: you commit to challenges that seem impossible and decide with incomplete information.

  • Strong communication, pairing technical credibility with clarity to align leaders across Remitly, without relying on formal authority.

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $256,000-$320,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan. Your recruiter can share more information about medical benefits offered, as well as other financial benefits and total compensation components offered with this role.
