We are seeking an experienced and visionary Principal IT Architect – Finance to lead the architecture strategy and design of our enterprise finance technology landscape. This role serves as the technical authority for all finance-related IT systems, including ERP platforms, tax solutions, cash management applications, and financial data infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SAP S/4HANA Finance, a strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks, and a proven track record of delivering scalable, resilient solutions in complex, global environments.
You will report directly to our Director, IT and you’ll work out of our Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA or Houston, TX location on a Hybrid work schedule.

ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
Architecture & Strategy
- Define, own, and evolve the enterprise architecture roadmap for Finance IT systems, ensuring alignment with business strategy and technology best practices.
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture across SAP S/4HANA Finance, tax platforms, treasury, and cash management applications.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies that drive efficiency, compliance, and innovation across finance functions.
- Establish architecture governance standards, design principles, and guardrails for the finance technology domain.
SAP S/4HANA Finance Leadership
- Serve as the principal architect for SAP S/4HANA Finance, with deep, hands-on experience across core modules including FI (Financial Accounting), CO (Controlling), AP, AR, GL, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting, and Treasury & Risk Management (TRM).
- Lead full-cycle SAP S/4HANA implementations and greenfield/brownfield data transition migrations, including complex ECC to S/4HANA transformation programs.
- Architect and govern the design, ensuring alignment with group reporting, profitability analysis (CO-PA), and management accounting requirements.
- Lead the architecture of SAP Fiori applications for finance, ensuring role-based UX design and alignment with SAP Best Practices.
- Define integration architecture between SAP S/4HANA and third-party applications using SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform), including SAP Integration Suite, API Management, and Event Mesh.
- Drive adoption of SAP Intelligent Finance capabilities including predictive accounting, automated period-end closing, and AI-driven cash flow forecasting.
- Ensure SAP S/4HANA landscape design supports multi-currency, multi-ledger, and multi-GAAP reporting requirements.
- Provide architectural oversight for SAP S/4HANA Cloud including RISE with SAP engagement models and the associated cloud transformation strategy.
- Architect solutions leveraging tax platforms such as Vertex, Avalara, SAP Tax Compliance, or similar tools for indirect tax, direct tax, and global tax reporting.
- Ensure system architectures support tax regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions, including VAT, GST, transfer pricing, and withholding tax.
- Partner with Tax and Finance teams to digitize and automate tax processes within the broader ERP ecosystem.
- Lead architecture for cash management and treasury systems, including integration with banking portals, payment hubs, and liquidity management tools.
- Design solutions for payment processing, bank reconciliation, cash forecasting, and working capital optimization.
- Ensure SOX, and other relevant compliance standards are embedded in architecture decisions across cash and treasury platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Act as a trusted advisor to Finance, Tax, Treasury, and business leadership, translating complex technical concepts into business outcomes.
- Mentor and guide a team of solution architects, technical leads, and engineers within the finance technology domain.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, security architects, and data architects to ensure coherent cross-domain solutions.
- Engage with third-party vendors, system integrators, and SAP directly to evaluate solutions and manage architectural risks.
Must Have
- 10+ years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in an architecture role focused on Finance or ERP systems.
- 8+ years of hands-on SAP experience, with a minimum of 2 full end-to-end SAP S/4HANA Finance implementations as a solution architect.
- Demonstrated expertise in SAP S/4HANA Finance modules: FI, CO, AP, AR, GL, Asset Accounting, Treasury & Risk Management, and Cash Management.
We Value
- SAP certification in S/4HANA Finance or related areas is highly desirable.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid cloud architecture.
- Experience or certification in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) or similar methodologies
