Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

We are looking for a curious and thoughtful Policy Domain Expert who will help drive our mission of keeping Discord users and developers safe through evolving our platform integrity policies and supporting their implementation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Identify, research, and write platform integrity policies to support users and developers on Discord through close collaboration with Product, Legal, Trust & Safety, and Product Policy.
  • Partner with enforcement teams under Product, Trust & Safety, Customer Support, and Developer Support to operationalize new policies through agent training, tooling changes, and enforcement guidance.
  • Manage and resolve policy escalations from cross-functional partners, including Product, Trust & Safety, Legal, Communications, and more.
  • Set the long-term vision and strategy for resolving issues within the platform integrity space, such as iterating on enforcement frameworks for Discord’s developer ecosystem.
  • Drive complex policy projects, including around Discord developers, apps, games, and emerging product launches.
  • Coordinate cross-functional responses to content decisions that balance differing opinions, perspectives, and risk assessments in order to provide effective policy guidance.
  • Write user-facing communications to explain our platform integrity policies and enforcement decisions through blog posts, Help Center articles, and other resources.
  • Articulate Discord’s values and policy principles to internal stakeholder teams.

Potential exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including but not limited to vulgar language, violent threats, pornography, and other graphic images.

What you should have:

    • Malware and malicious conduct
    • Inauthentic behaviors or engagement
    • Platform ban evasion

  • General knowledge about APIs and API integrations
  • Familiarity with scaled abuse, as well as technical and adversarial abuse patterns
  • Experience in content policy writing and development, social science research, and data-driven decision-making
  • Familiarity with project and/or program management.
  • Passion for supporting both your team and our users
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Attitude of open-mindedness, collaboration, flexibility, and always questioning your assumptions
