Job Description:
The Platform Engineer performs day-to-day database administration, platform services maintenance, and infrastructure support for the engineering team in an on-premises environment. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day database administration including monitoring, patching, maintenance, and upgrades
- Execute and verify database backup, recovery, and restore procedures according to established schedules
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance — identify slow queries, review execution plans, and recommend index improvements
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain on-premises platform services Event Streaming Services, Message Brokers, and Object Storage Clusters.
- Manage platform services’ security — user access provisioning, role assignments, and permission audits
- Support Windows Server and Linux server maintenance tasks related to database and platform service hosting environments
- Assist with basic CI/CD pipeline operations — trigger builds, monitor deployments, and troubleshoot pipeline failures
- Maintain database and platform services’ documentation including schema diagrams, configuration baselines, and standard operating procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Database administration — backup/recovery, monitoring, and basic performance troubleshooting
- T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and query execution plans
- Database security fundamentals — user management, role-based access, and audit logging
- Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure
- Microsoft certifications in SQL Server or Azure Data (DP-300, or equivalent)
- Experience with SQL Server/Postgres high availability features — AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Mirroring
- Exposure to on-premises platform services such as Redis, MinIO, Kafka, or similar
- Basic familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps Pipelines)
- Experience in manufacturing or enterprise systems environments
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline
- 2+ years of experience in database administration or a database-heavy development/support role
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 3+ years with hands-on SQL Server and Linux administration experience
