JOB PURPOSE
The Operations Planner will manage all aspects of a client’s day-to-day transportation as well as proactively communicate and solve transportation-related issues by routing each shipment to the most effective carrier, remaining cognizant of safety, service, and cost. The Operations Planner will also manage customer shipments from order receipt through delivery, uncover potential for additional freight cost savings, manage client and contract carrier relationships, and provide customer service on assigned accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Order entry – responsible for timely and accurate entry of transportation orders received from customers via emails from the customer, phone calls, web interface, fax or EDI.
- Tendering Freight – tendering freight to low-cost carriers via EDI, Web interface, or email – remaining focused on carrier safety compliance to DOT rules, carrier performance, and financial impact.
- Service monitoring – responsible for tracking and securing actual pick-up and delivery statuses of client shipments.
- Customer Service – daily professional interaction with key internal and external clients to solve their daily transportation need, informing clients of issues/results.
- Carrier relationships – maintain productive relationships with carrier partners in daily interactions either via e-mail or phone.
- Continuous improvement – empowered to consistently look for opportunities to improve processes.
- May preform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- BS/BA degree or relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- General Computer skills, centered primarily around excel and outlook – data entry into system templates.
- Ability to communicate directly with clients and maintain their trust and achieve their objectives daily.
- Foster a culture centered on quality work, team and individual personal and professional success while maintaining the highest standards of conduct and ethics.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while staying focused on quality and customer satisfaction.
- Previous transportation experience is not a requirement.
