WHO WE ARE
Biofire Technologies is on a mission to give gun owners better tools for reducing preventable gun injuries and deaths, especially among children. We believe our technology, combined with a best-in-class customer experience, will define the future of firearms safety for the next generation. Our mission-driven approach has earned support from the firearm community, the tech world, and the media.
Biofire employees encompass a diverse range of talents, including world-class engineers with expertise in designing and testing firearms, medical devices, robots, cars, satellites, rockets, and supersonic jets. Our team is united by a shared commitment to safety and reliability, values that guide our work across various backgrounds and disciplines.
OUR CULTURE
Reducing accidental firearm injuries and deaths requires original thinking and authentic collaboration, so we’re deeply invested in building a team and culture that can achieve our mission together. Team members enjoy autonomy and flexibility from day one, so expect to be immediately tasked with solving challenging problems and building new systems that work. We’ll hold you accountable for executing audacious goals, giving and receiving honest feedback, and helping your teammates succeed. You’ll receive respect, kindness, and support from every direction while you figure out how to get it all done.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a hands-on, multidisciplinary engineer to join our Engineering team — someone who can research, prototype, and scale new solutions that make our manufacturing smarter, our products more reliable, and our systems more efficient.
This isn’t a traditional manufacturing role. It’s an R&D-forward, independent contributor position where you’ll be equally at home writing a proposal for a new process, coding a test script, or machining a bracket for a new fixture. You’ll take abstract problems and turn them into functioning systems — researching, building, testing, and scaling as you go
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be confident across mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing domains. You should be excited to dive into hands-on projects, learn new tools or techniques on the fly, and own solutions end-to-end. If you thrive on autonomy, love learning across disciplines, and want to help pioneer the future of firearm safety through innovation and engineering excellence, we encourage you to apply.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include:
-
Leading end-to-end technical projects from idea to implementation — including research, prototyping, validation, and scaling;
-
Investigating and proposing new manufacturing processes, tools, or techniques to improve yield, reliability, and throughput;
-
Collaborating closely with all engineering teams to ensure manufacturability, design alignment, and production readiness;
-
Designing and executing experiments to validate hypotheses and de-risk production decisions;
-
Prototyping test fixtures, tooling, and automation solutions using rapid iteration methods;
-
Writing clear technical documentation, internal reports, and data-driven proposals;
-
Contributing to programming efforts in areas like test automation, embedded debugging, or data acquisition, where needed;
QUALIFICATIONS
We understand that not all applicants will possess skills that perfectly align with our job qualifications. At Biofire, we appreciate diverse experiences from various industries, and we encourage all individuals who meet the necessary qualifications to submit their applications. While having the "desired" qualifications may strengthen a candidate's profile, we also welcome applicants with alternative experiences to apply.
Desired Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field;
-
4+ years of experience in technically broad roles across at least two of: product development, manufacturing, testing, or embedded/software engineering;
-
Experience with production processes such as injection molding, SMT, sheet metal, or other high-complexity methods;
-
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and standards with fluency;
-
Demonstrated history of autonomous problem-solving, prototyping, and driving continuous improvement;
-
Strong technical communication skills — including the ability to write proposals, reports, and documentation;
Bonus Qualifications:
-
Hands-on experience building custom fixtures, jigs, or test equipment;
-
Familiarity with scripting or programming tools such as Python, Arduino, LabVIEW, or MATLAB;
-
Experience in safety-critical or regulated hardware industries (e.g., medical, defense, automotive);
-
Knowledge of manufacturing analytics, reliability testing, or SPC/FMEA methodologies;
