Job Summary

This position leads engineering for the team building the just-in-time (JIT) proxy workload capabilities within StrongDM, now part of Delinea—the universal access management platform that secures and audits access to databases, servers, Kubernetes clusters, and web applications. As Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers architecting and delivering secure, distributed systems in Go (Golang) for StrongDM’s proxy and control-plane platform, while guiding the team’s contributions to the broader Delinea Platform’s identity security services. This role will report directly into our Director of Engineering, Workload.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow a team of software engineers building StrongDM’s proxy and control-plane platform, including hiring, coaching, and career development.

  • Translate product and engineering roadmaps into operational plans, and guide the team through execution and delivery across StrongDM and the broader Delinea Platform.

  • Determine staffing and resourcing needs to meet project schedules and goals.

  • Partner with peer engineering managers, product managers, architects, and DevOps/SRE leadership to align priorities and present results and recommendations.

  • Guide the team using established engineering practices and department standards, recommending improvements where needed.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the day-to-day work of the engineering team, balancing feature delivery, technical debt, and platform reliability across StrongDM’s gateways, relays, and control-plane services.

  • Own delivery of the team’s roadmap for distributed systems written in Go (Golang), ensuring alignment with Delinea’s cloud and security architecture standards across AWS and multi-cloud environments.

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning for direct reports.

  • Oversee code and design reviews to maintain a high bar for performance, security, and maintainability, including secure network protocols and cryptographic systems (TLS/mTLS, credential brokering).

  • Collaborate with architects, product managers, and DevOps/SRE teams to define and prioritize the roadmap, ensuring compliance with security and privacy requirements and Delinea Platform standards, including policy-as-code (Cedar) and Zero Standing Privilege access models.

  • Champion engineering best practices and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and foster a culture of continuous improvement and mentorship across the team.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 2+ years of experience directly managing or leading software engineering teams, in addition to a strong hands-on engineering background.

  • Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience and distributed systems.

  • Experience guiding teams through cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar) and secure, high-scale network services.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate roadmaps into actionable plans, set priorities, and manage resourcing to meet deadlines.

  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles, identity management, and policy-based authorization approaches (e.g., Cedar).

We’d Love to See:

  • Experience leading teams that work with secrets management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager) and credential brokering.

  • Background in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline management.

  • Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture, just-in-time access models, and multi-cloud deployment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
