Position Overview

C&D Technologies | Trojan Battery is seeking a high-performing Logistics Manager to lead strategy, execution, and innovation across our global transportation network. This role oversees a complex, high-volume logistics environment including domestic and cross-border freight, multi-modal shipping, 3PL warehousing, carrier procurement, and regulatory compliance while continuously improving network design, routing, and service efficiency. This role will manage carrier relationships, ensure service compliance, and lead cost-saving initiatives through data-driven analysis and collaboration across supply chain functions.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, analytical ability, and deep expertise in transportation procurement, TMS implementation, and network optimization. This individual will be responsible for driving cost efficiency, service excellence, and operational resilience while working with a high-performing logistics team.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation management:
    • Oversee domestic and cross border freight execution across all modes
    • Manage daily carrier operations, tendering, and performance compliance
  • Carrier and RFP process
    • Lead full cycle RFP process for TMS solutions and freight carriers; including contract management, relationship building, scorecard management, carrier network optimization and quarterly performance reviews
    • Develop routing guides, mode strategies, and capacity plans to support business needs
  • Manage freight forwarders and customs brokers to ensure accurate HTS classification, timely and compliant border clearance, tariff mitigation, and adherence to global trade regulations through standardized SOPs and performance management frameworks. Ensure regulatory and trade compliance, including DOT, hazmat, and cross-border shipments.
  • Oversee financial tracking and analysis, including freight spend reporting, GL coding validation, and monthly budget alignment in collaboration with Finance
    • Ensure SOP alignment, drive consistency in service delivery
    • Resolve freight claims, including root cause analysis and recovery with carriers.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure adherence to SOPs, training materials, corrective action plans, and escalation protocols for internal teams and 3PL partners
  •  Lead transportation analytics and reporting, developing dashboards to track cost per unit, on-time delivery, exceptions, and other key logistics KPIs using Tableau, Power BI, and Excel to drive actionable improvements
  • Develop and deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly transportation performance and service-level reports
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing transportation and logistics team. Act as the primary liaison between transportation and key stakeholders in Engineering, Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Finance to align logistics performance with enterprise priorities and customer expectations
  • Manage the transportation systems roadmap by partnering with IT, Operations, and Finance to implement and enhance TMS functionality, drive automation (e.g., routing, freight audit), and integrate ERP and BI tools for end-to-end supply chain visibility and performance optimization.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to optimize freight networks, 3PL providers, and facility alignment using data-driven insights and support strategic shifts and distribution footprint adjustments to reduce cost and improve service levels.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years of experience in transportation or logistics management within manufacturing or high-volume distribution.
  • Proven experience managing carrier RFPs, contract negotiations, and third-party logistics (3PL) relationships.
  • Strong experience in multi-modal transportation, including TL, LTL, intermodal, FCL, LCL, and air freight, with a strong understanding of hazmat and dangerous goods shipping under various Incoterms and global regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with TMS implementation, integration, and daily operational use.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, utilizing pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data modeling to manage freight invoice reconciliation, track budget performance, and generate detailed supply chain financial reports for strategic analysis
  • Knowledge of cross-border logistics, customs brokerage, HTS classification, international trade agreements and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with hazmat or regulated goods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Uber Freight, SMC³, Truckstop, Project 44 or similar freight optimization tools.
  • ERP and MRP experience, preferably Plex.
  • Lean Six Sigma, APICS, DOT, IATA, IMDG or related supply chain certifications a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of FTL, LTL, parcel operations, routing, and TMS platforms (e.g., Uber Freight, MercuryGate, Blue Yonder, FedEx).
  • Proficient in Tableau/Power BI, and transportation analytics.
