At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties. And for more than 90 years our innovative drive has kept us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs. From advocating for seat belts, air bags and graduated driving laws, to being an industry leader in pricing sophistication, telematics, and, more recently, device and identity protection.

Job Description

The Enterprise Risk Modeling Manager will lead the strategic oversight and governance of Allstate’s Enterprise Model Risk Management (EMRM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Management programs. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing the enterprise-wide strategy for model and AI risk, with a strong emphasis on emerging technologies including generative AI, agentic systems, and advanced machine learning.
This leader will drive the development and implementation of robust governance frameworks, technical validation protocols, and automated tooling to ensure the safe, responsible, and effective deployment of AI and predictive models across the enterprise. The role requires deep technical fluency, a strong command of AI governance principles, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in a highly dynamic environment.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in technical model validation— including stress testing, performance benchmarking, explainability, and bias detection — across a variety of model types (e.g., statistical, ML, GenAI). This individual will demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, and a proven track record of driving new paths forward in uncharted areas of AI innovation, particularly in agentic AI and autonomous decision systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the enterprise model and AI risk strategy, with a focus on scalable governance for generative AI, agentic systems, and high-impact predictive models.
- AI Governance & Policy: Lead the development and continuous refinement of enterprise-wide AI and model risk policies, standards, and controls, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and ethical AI principles.
- Technical Validation & Tooling: Oversee the implementation of advanced model validation tools and frameworks, including automated testing, bias detection, explainability, and performance monitoring.
- Cross-Functional Enablement: Partner with model developers, data scientists, and technology teams to embed model risk controls into the AI/ML lifecycle—from ideation through deployment and monitoring.
- Risk Identification & Health Checks: Direct enterprise-wide model and AI risk assessments, including health checks and thematic reviews, with a focus on early identification of emerging risks.
- Governance Integration: Collaborate with 1st and 2nd line functions to embed model governance into operational workflows, including model inventory, change management, and incident response.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison to Business Unit CROs, the Enterprise Risk and Return Council (ERRC), and the Board Risk and Return Committee (RRC), providing insights and recommendations on model and AI risk posture.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of model risk professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Job Qualifications

Education:
- PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering) strongly preferred
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience required
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in model risk management, AI/ML governance, or enterprise risk functions
- Proven track record of leading technical validation efforts for complex models, including generative AI and agentic systems
- Experience implementing model risk tooling and automation at scale
Technical Expertise:
- Deep understanding of AI/ML model development, validation, and monitoring practices
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., SR 11-7, EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, NAIC)
- Hands-on experience with model validation tools, MLOps platforms, and explainability frameworks (e.g., SHAP, LIME, Fairlearn)
