Job Title

Lead Software Architect

Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Position Type: Full-time, Direct W2
Salary Range: $175,000–$200,000 Annually
Experience Required: 10+ Years

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly accomplished Lead Software Architect with 10+ years of professional software engineering experience to lead enterprise-wide architecture initiatives, define long-term technology strategy, and deliver highly scalable, resilient, and secure distributed systems. This role represents one of the highest levels of individual technical contribution within the organization, requiring deep expertise in software architecture, cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, performance engineering, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will influence engineering strategy across multiple organizations, establish architectural standards, mentor senior engineers, and drive the successful delivery of mission-critical platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and drive enterprise software architecture strategy across multiple products, platforms, and engineering organizations.
  • Design highly scalable, fault-tolerant, cloud-native distributed systems capable of supporting enterprise-scale workloads.
  • Establish architecture principles, technical standards, and governance practices that improve software quality and consistency.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design sessions, and engineering decision-making for high-impact initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership, engineering managers, product teams, and business stakeholders to align technology strategy with organizational objectives.
  • Drive platform modernization initiatives, including microservices adoption, cloud migration, API strategy, and event-driven architectures.
  • Lead performance optimization, scalability planning, reliability engineering, and system resiliency improvements.
  • Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers while fostering engineering excellence, architectural best practices, and technical innovation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic investments that improve engineering capabilities and business outcomes.
  • Author and review architecture documentation, technical RFCs, design specifications, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
  • Contribute hands-on to critical architectural components, proof-of-concepts, and complex technical implementations when appropriate.
  • Champion DevSecOps, observability, automation, and operational excellence across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale software platforms.
  • Proven expertise architecting and deploying large-scale distributed systems in production environments.
  • Advanced programming proficiency in Java, Go, C++, C#, or similar backend technologies.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, microservices, distributed computing, API design, messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Extensive experience with performance engineering, scalability, high availability, disaster recovery, and system optimization.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams or business units.
  • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), observability, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Public technical contributions, including conference presentations, published papers, technical blogs, patents, or leadership in open-source projects.
  • Experience leading multi-year enterprise modernization or digital transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of FinOps, cloud governance, and large-scale cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience designing solutions for regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) or recognized industry certifications in software architecture or cloud technologies.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, enterprise integration patterns, and AI-enabled software platforms.
