Job Description

Fortune Brands Innovations, is hiring for a Lead Product Development Engineer to join our Emtek in City of Industry, CA. 

This Lead Product Development Engineer will be an individual contributor that owns the design and development for our Emtek handle and entryways. You'll lead product development engineering teams on assigned projects from concept to production and be the spokesperson for your product. 

This role’s responsibilities include:

  • Provide engineering support and technical assistance to all engineering customers, both internal and external
  • Leads teams of engineers to develop products
  • Plans and steers the technical development of products
  • Product Development risks and mitigation plans
  • Drive team to develop capable, cost-effective manufacturing and assembly processes concurrent to product design activities to ensure robust designs are delivered
  • Interact with Marketing, Sales, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Designers, Purchasing, and suppliers to meet the specifications and needs of the customer in the development of new, reliable products for the market
  • Can make the connections between all user requirements, through product requirements, and into subsystem specifications
  • Maintains product platform mindset
  • Develop, lead, and actively participate in Design Reviews / DFM / DFA for new products
  • Mentor/Coach other team members in problem solving and engineering
  • Continuously improve processes, skills, team environment and tools necessary to achieve Fortune Brand’s product leadership strategy
  • High proficiency in Dealing with Ambiguity, especially early in projects, to convey critical information to team members and stakeholders.
  • Drives resolution of critical early decisions in product design
  •  Develop and identify intellectual property claims while working with project teams
  • Communicate technical information (data, designs and updates) to a non-technical audience
  • Collects, maintains, and disseminates the technical knowledge that the project learns

Position Location: This position is eligible to work in a hybrid environment our of our City of Industry, CA facility. Remote days are Monday and Friday.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required
  • 8+ years of product development engineering experience is required, to include significant manufacturing exposure 
  • Experience with International suppliers is highly preferred
  • Fluent in the use of 3-D CAD (SolidWorks is preferred) and PC’s

This Lead Product Development Engineer must be familiar in several of the following areas:

  •         Advanced Failure Analysis and scientific problem solving
  •         Mechanical System Modeling Techniques
  •         FEA, CFD, FMEA, DOE, QFD, and DFMA
  •         Use of engineering principles. i.e. fluid, mechanical and thermal
  •         Interpretation of statistics related to manufacturing processes and part design
  •         Collaborative problem-solving techniques
  •         Geometric dimensioning and tolerances
  •         Analysis of component / assembly tolerance stack-ups
  •         Ability to effectively work with suppliers from different countries / cultures
  •        Written and verbal communication skills for dealing with multiple levels of staff, customers and suppliers
  •         Proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin are beneficial but optional

Ability and willingness to travel up to approximately 15% of the time, both domestically and possibly internationally annually

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $130,000 USD - $214,500 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
