Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Jr. Full Stack Developer to join our team supporting a state government artificial intelligence (AI) and data modernization initiative. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers, data scientists, and government stakeholders to build, test, and deploy secure, scalable web applications that power next-generation AI-driven solutions for the public sector.  You’ll gain hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle — from requirements gathering and design to development, deployment, and maintenance — while contributing to projects that enhance state services and improve citizen engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain front-end and back-end components of web-based applications using modern frameworks and languages (e.g., React, Node.js, Python, TypeScript).
 - Collaborate with data engineers and AI specialists to integrate APIs, data pipelines, and machine learning models into web applications.
 - Participate in code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipeline automation to ensure code quality and reliability.
 - Assist in developing secure, accessible, and scalable solutions that meet state and federal compliance standards.
 - Contribute to technical documentation, sprint planning, and Agile ceremonies.
 - Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance in coordination with DevOps and QA teams.
 - Stay up to date with emerging tools, frameworks, and AI technologies relevant to public-sector innovation.
 - Assist in building and testing user interfaces that comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508 accessibility standards, ensuring inclusive and equitable user experiences.
 - Support development and deployment of multilingual and metadata-driven components that enhance the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability (FAIR) of state data and AI assets.
 - Participate in sandbox testing and phased rollout activities to validate new features, accessibility compliance, and security performance before production deployment.
 - Contribute to secure coding practices, privacy protection, and Zero Trust implementation under the guidance of senior engineers.
 - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data exchange and model integrations meet ethical AI and transparency requirements.
 - Help monitor system performance and maintain compliance documentation, including audit logs and release notes for governance review.
 
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
 - 1–3 years of experience (including internships or academic projects) in full stack development.
 - Proficiency with at least one front-end framework (React, Angular, or Vue) and one back-end environment (Node.js, Express, Django, or Flask).
 - Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, and database technologies (SQL and/or NoSQL).
 - Understanding of Git-based version control and Agile development practices.
 - Foundational understanding of accessibility and inclusive design standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508).
 - Awareness of FAIR data principles and their application in public-sector digital solutions.
 - Demonstrated interest in ethical AI, responsible development, and privacy-preserving design practices.
 - Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
 - US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
 - Must reside in the Continental US.Depending on the government agency, specific requirements may include public trust background check or security clearance.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or coursework related to machine learning, AI model integration, or data visualization.
 - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (especially government or FedRAMP environments).
 - Knowledge of DevOps tools (Docker, Jenkins, Terraform) or automation frameworks.
 - Prior exposure to government projects, data governance, or public-sector compliance standards (e.g., ADA, NIST, FedRAMP).
 - Experience building or testing accessible interfaces with multilingual support and compliance validation.
 - Familiarity with FAIR-aligned metadata or open data standards (e.g., DCAT, CKAN, or schema.org).
 - Exposure to sandbox or pilot testing environments within Agile or DevSecOps pipelines.
