IT DBA Advisor SrPRIMARY PURPOSE: The Senior DBA Advisor serves as the deep database technology advisor for strategic database work. The role focuses on database engineering, modernization planning, technical design, platform standards, proof-of-concept execution, migration strategy, and transition readiness for new or materially changed database solutions. Operational production support and daily run activities are not the primary focus of this role; however, the role partners closely with operational/vendor database teams to ensure new solutions can be supported effectively after implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, implements and maintains the database system ensuring that the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs including logical and physical database design and implementation; structure testing of database designs, applications, and technology platform; security administration, backup and recovery planning; capacity planning; performance and tuning; research and evaluation of new tools and techniques.
- Develops, revises, and implements policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines to effectively administer the database environment.
- Serves as the senior database subject matter expert for enterprise initiatives involving database platforms, application modernization, cloud enablement, and strategic technology transformation.
- Leads database design and engineering for new applications, major enhancements, migrations, integrations, acquisitions, and enterprise modernization efforts.
- Develops and recommends database platform patterns, technical standards, reference designs, and implementation guidelines that support scalability, resiliency, security, compliance, and maintainability.
- Partners with enterprise architecture, solution architecture, application teams, infrastructure, information security, vendors, and business stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into database solution designs.
- Evaluates database technologies, cloud database services, replication capabilities, data movement approaches, automation tooling, and modernization options; documents findings and recommends adoption strategies.
- Leads proof-of-concept activities and technical evaluations to validate database solutions, migration approaches, performance expectations, resiliency patterns, and supportability requirements.
- Defines database migration and modernization approaches, including platform conversion strategies, schema transition planning, data movement patterns, testing requirements, cutover considerations, and operational readiness needs.
- Provides technical leadership for database-related components of strategic projects, including high availability design, disaster recovery architecture, replication, change data capture, security design, platform integration, and automation.
- Reviews and provides guidance on logical and physical database designs, data models, indexing strategies, schema structures, performance considerations, and integration patterns for enterprise solutions.
- Identifies technical risks, constraints, dependencies, and design tradeoffs and communicates recommendations clearly to project teams, leadership, and governance forums.
- Partners with vendor database teams to plan smooth transition of newly delivered solutions into production support, including documentation, runbooks, monitoring requirements, knowledge transfer, and support handoff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred. Computer-related major preferred. Associate degree in computer-related study plus two (2) years computer-related experience strongly preferred.
Experience
- Eight years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required, including engineering, or database architecture experience.
- Three or more years of experience in hands-on database administration on enterprise-scale Progress OpenEdge database.
- Experience with enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, Progress OpenEdge, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Snowflake, SAP HANA, or similar technologies preferred.
- Experience supporting database modernization, cloud migration, platform transformation, application integration, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, automation, or data movement initiatives preferred.
