As a Senior Workday Configuration Engineer, you will help deliver innovative HR technology solutions that drive operational excellence, modernize business processes, and create seamless experiences for our crew.

As a member of the Workday Core HCM team, you will partner with HR, technology, and business stakeholders to design, configure, and optimize the foundational Workday capabilities that support Vanguard's workforce. You'll help ensure our HR systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and positioned to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

The Senior Workday Configuration Engineer is responsible for the hands-on configuration, support, enhancement, and continuous optimization of Workday Core HCM. This role leads solution design, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and production support while delivering scalable solutions that improve business outcomes and enhance the crew experience.

This is a highly technical, hands-on configuration role. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time directly configuring Workday, troubleshooting complex issues, and delivering scalable solutions through system design and configuration.

This role is for you if you're excited by the opportunity to build, not just maintain. We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and passionate about using technology to solve real business challenges. If you enjoy turning complexity into simple, scalable solutions and want to help shape the future of the employee experience at Vanguard, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a hands-on Workday Core HCM technical expert, responsible for solution design, configuration, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization of Workday functionality. Independently configure complex business requirements and deliver scalable solutions aligned to organizational objectives.

  • Own end-to-end system configuration within Workday Core HCM, including business processes, organizations, supervisory structures, staffing models, validations, notifications, calculated fields, condition rules, security, and related framework components.

  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions by analyzing requirements, designing configurations, conducting testing, managing deployments, and providing production support.

  • Maintain configuration standards, governance practices, and technical documentation to ensure consistency, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence across the Workday platform.

  • Identify, prioritize, and implement system enhancements that improve user experience, streamline HR operations, reduce manual effort, and maximize the value of Workday investments.

  • Maintain deep technical expertise in Workday Core HCM, staying current on Workday releases, emerging capabilities, best practices, and configuration techniques through continuous learning and certification activities.

  • Support data integrity, security, risk, and compliance activities, including security administration, audit support, access reviews, data privacy controls, and ongoing monitoring of system health and data quality.

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex system issues, partnering with internal stakeholders and vendors to resolve defects, improve performance, and maintain platform stability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, technology, security, reporting, and integration teams, to deliver high-quality solutions and support strategic initiatives.

  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday Core HCM configuration experience required.

  • Demonstrated expertise configuring Workday business processes, security, organizations, calculated fields, condition rules, notifications, and related framework components.

  • Experience supporting Workday releases, testing, troubleshooting, and production support activities.

  • Workday Pro Certification preferred.

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
