About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Engineering Associate to join Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB) Operations within COO Technology. The team develops and supports technology solutions used across CIB Operations functions, including Capital Markets Trading Services, confirmations, broker-dealer operations technology, client data and onboarding, regulatory review and reporting, derivatives operations, securities operations, and account reconciliation.
In this role, you will work with product owners, business partners, and technology leads to understand product and business requirements and translate them into application features and user stories. You will contribute to application development and business support while helping modernize existing applications, support transitions to new data centers and cloud environments, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Work is organized within an Agile/Scrum team, with assigned features and stories delivered in two-week increments.
This position is designed for an early-career technology professional who wants hands-on experience with enterprise application development, data and reporting tools, application modernization, and collaborative product delivery in a large financial services environment.
You will also participate in Wells Fargo's Career Opportunities in Development and Engineering (CODE) Program , a two-year early-career development program that supports technical and professional growth through training, mentorship, career coaching, networking opportunities, and a cohort experience.
The CODE Program offers meaningful, real-world work combined with structured professional development, mentorship, and exposure to a broad range of technologies across the enterprise. In this role, you will:
  • Develop, test, enhance, and support Java-based applications, services, APIs, and data-driven solutions that enable CIB Operations business processes, address business needs, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with product owners, business partners, technology leads, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, analyze problems, and help design and deliver technology solutions.
  • Work across multiple technologies, tools, and platforms while continuously learning new technical skills and expanding your engineering knowledge.
  • Participate in Agile and Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, retrospectives, and iterative feature delivery.
  • Support application modernization, automation, cloud adoption, and technology transformation initiatives designed to improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to software build, testing, deployment, and release activities utilizing modern engineering practices, automation tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, root cause analysis, and production support activities to help maintain application stability and performance.
  • Create, maintain, and support reports, dashboards, data integrations, and other solutions that provide insights into business and operational processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, business partners, and stakeholders located across multiple locations and time zones to deliver technology solutions and project objectives.
  • Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate requirements, identify solutions, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools, where appropriate and approved, to support coding, testing, documentation, and overall engineering productivity.
  • Communicate technical concepts, project updates, risks, and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Take ownership of assigned features, user stories, and development tasks while contributing to team goals and delivery commitments.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance application quality, automation, operational processes, and overall engineering effectiveness.
  • Participate in technical training, professional development opportunities, team activities, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen engineering capabilities and career growth.
  • Follow applicable engineering, security, risk, compliance, and change-management standards.
Required Qualifications:
6+ months of Technology Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
  • 6+ months of experience developing, testing, and supporting backend applications and services that process business logic and enable secure data exchange between systems, utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
  • 6+ months of experience developing automation, integration, or data-processing solutions that improve operational efficiency and support business processes, utilizing Python.
  • 6+ months of experience developing and supporting data-driven applications that retrieve, process, store, and validate information used by business and operational systems, utilizing SQL and relational databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar enterprise database technologies.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming principles, data structures, debugging techniques, software testing methodologies, source control concepts, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Ability to collaborate on software development projects using Git, GitHub, or comparable source-control and collaborative development platforms.
  • Experience contributing to software build, deployment, and release activities through automated development workflows and modern DevOps practices, including GitHub, Jenkins, Harness, Liquibase, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools that support coding, debugging, testing, documentation, or developer productivity; experience with GitHub Copilot is preferred, while exposure to Claude Code, Devin, or similar autonomous software engineering tools is a plus.
  • Capability to analyze, visualize, and communicate data through business intelligence and reporting solutions using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern technology transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption, cloud migration, application modernization, or data center migration efforts.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies, including user stories, sprint planning, iterative development, backlog management, and team ceremonies.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather information, analyze requirements, troubleshoot technical issues, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interest in supporting the full technology lifecycle, including application development, production support, operational stability, and continuous improvement within a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Financial services, capital markets, banking operations, regulatory reporting, or related industry exposure is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, data science, or a related technical field preferred but not required.
Job Expectations:
  • This is a full-time position with a 40-hour workweek.
  • The selected candidate for this role must be able to begin employment by October 26, 2026, in a full-time capacity.
  • This position is required to work from the designated posted office location and must be able to meet all expectations of the current hybrid work schedule, including regular in-office attendance as defined by the team and program requirements.
  • Actively engage in the two-year CODE Program, including participation in training, mentorship, networking events, and career development activities.
